Don't worry yaz and conforto are due some nagging injuries as well. Hopefully lee can stay healthy

Unfortunately this is why it's hard to feel confident for the upcoming season. With the exceptions of Chapman and Lee the rest of the team is the same cast we've seen for the last 2 or 3 seasons. Lot's of decent players that all seem to have trouble staying healthy. Pitching and defense are going to have to carry this team unless everyone manages to have a good year and stay on the field.

Couldn't do much better this offseason unfortunately , yea we still missing our buster posey in the line up, but our pitching is solid , maybe make a move for a big bat at trade deadline and see what happens, if you got pitching you always have a chance

We dont have the farm system to pull anything like this off, and we havent for a long time.

Yamamoto sucks and Ohtani is compromised and it's not even opening day yet. $1b down the drain

He's got tremendous power but he's not very disciplined at the plate. That's why he needs more plate appearances. Maybe like a half season without injuries in AAA. That is unless they're willing to let him learn in the big leagues. Personally, I'm not against that since you can only learn so much in the minors. The nasty breaking pitches that they throw for strikes in the majors are what separates the men from the boys. In AAA they see more fastballs but pitchers at that level haven't perfected their breaking stuff. That's usually why they're at that level.

His walk rate is actually pretty solid.

Walks don't produce runs. Look at Brandon Belt. He always had a great on base percentage but he never drove in a lot of runs. He took too many walks with runners in scoring positin.

Luciano won't get paid to walk. With his power they're going to be looking for ribeyes. It's looking like they may go with his as the starter. If they do, let him play even if he struggles. Don't do the AAA elevator thing with him if he doesn't hit right away. Give him at least 6 weeks of starting every day. If he's really struggling then he may need to go to AAA.

You said he's not very disciplined at the plate. Seeing more pitches and taking walks is directly related to what you mentioned.

I said that because he swings at a lot of bad pitches and still strikes out too much. He hasn't really had a lot of at bats for a guy thats been in the system for 4 years. Breaking pitches are usually hard for any player but when you haven't seen that many pitches it's even harder. Hopefully he'll learn how to lay off the pitches in the dirt and get deeper in the count so they have to come into him. I have high hopes that he will because he has a quick bat. He just needs work.

Srikeouts sometimes come with a patient approach to work deeper into counts. I have no doubt they wanted him to work on that approach as they asked Matos to do the same.
Villar, Schmidt and Ramos just hammered the Giants on Sunday. 8-1. I guess they don't like getting stuck in Sacramento.

The Giants pitchers were all AAA guys though, so it was just River Cat hitters hammering River Cat pitchers.

Very promising.

I am sort of expecting another one of Zaidi's novelty-type guys who are good in certain situations but won't ever achieve any major stardom. I hope Hicks proves me wrong.

OP and thread name updated.

I am pretty excited for opening day on Thursday. This team should be a lot more fun to watch. The pitching staff in the second half has the potential of being tremendous. I'm really excited to have a real manager and not having to see meathead's lineups everyday.

One thing to think about this year...especially as we enter the second year without the great Buster Posey...I'm not sure how much longer we get to listen/watch Kruk n Kuip. And they do way les than years before. Enjoy it dudes. They are the best in the business!

This season will have some highs and lows. But overall should be much more fun than previous years. Let's have a good season and return the thread to being my favorite on the board.

Your friend til the end.

I'm talking about a power hitter taking walks with runners in scoring position. Time after time I sw Belt take a walk with runners on 1st and 3rd with one out or no outs. He had a great eye but a very limited hitting zone. He rarely went outside that zone to hit outside pitches to left field. Certain positions are expected to drive in runs while others are expected to get on base to be driven in. First and 3rd are traditional power spots along with corner outfielders.

Walks produce runs if you're a leadoff hitter and have someone to drive you in. They don't when you're the power hitter and have runners to be driven in. That's often been the Giants biggest issue in recent years. Too many left on base.
