2026 San Francisco Giants Season Thread

This is awesome. Giants should win two games in the postseasonbefore getting eliminated now.

No shot at a title but a lot better than before .

Definitely pumped for the season now. Makes me really want to update the OP on the thread. I think Farhan did a great job this offseason...though I think he was feeling the heat and forced to do it. They pretty much had 7 fans in attendance last year lol.

The market this year was crazy...and some players over played their hands. If I had one critique its Farhan has essentially gave a ton of players a potential one year deal and the giants could be doing the exact same thing next year. But he no doubt totally improved the roster. He gets a pass from me this year and I will reevaluate next year after this years trade deadlne and next year's offseason.
This signing helps a lot and the pitching staff should be fairly solid if they stay healthy. I still don't like the everyday lineup because too many players are guys that get hurt a lot. If they can stay healthy like they did when they won 107 games then the Giants can compete. Lots of ifs.

This is easily an A+ off season unless you believed there was actually a chance Ohtani and Yamamoto would come to the Giants.

At the time the article came out, a D was a fair grade. It was an article, not coming from our mouths anyway.

In spite of the lack of getting a true star, it was a pretty damn good offseason. Still a lot of question marks, but almost as good of an offseason as we could have hoped for.
It was total BS to even put out an off season grade when free agency wasnt close to being finished. It was a stupid article. But in reality, several in here were ripping on Farhan every chance they could regardless of the article.

It was a nice offseason, and with Melvin this roster should have enough firepower to be a playoff team. But ultimately we could be back to square one again next year. I still think we need to lock up 1 or 2 big time guys longer term to anchor the roster and make us competitive for the foreseeable future. Farhan landed Snell and Chapman because they didn't get the longterm deals Boras wanted.

Ultimately I think Farhan is still on thin ice. If we don't go deep into the postseason this year they will be looking to replace him.

I dont disagree but Blake Snell isnt the guy for a long term deal in my opinion. The Giants have so many good young arms in the minors that should be ready to really contribute next year.

Really, how many players were out there in free agency this year that were worth long term huge deals? 2 for sure and the Dodgers got the both despite Farhans efforts. Hopefully Lee will be worth it as well.

So lets hear what you would have done to improve the lineup? And Ohtani doesnt count because that was never going to happen

Agreed.

New manager, lot of new players, we need a new thread

you know if we never made a new thread this would easily be the biggest thread on the zone. What if we kept this one and someday it was 143 billion pages.
Did we win?

I don't know that there is much they could do. They improved the defense with Lee, Amed and Chapman. The Snell signing is great. The problem is that they haven't done a lot to improve the offense. Soler is hopefully an upgrade at DH but that's it.

It's seems clear that big time power hitters (especially left handed)don't want to come here because the ballpark has a reputation as a pitchers park. I think Farhan would be wise to stop promising to be all in on signing these guys when they don't seem to want to come here. Just say we'll do whatever we can to improve the team. Don't over promise and get fans all worked up.

They need to concentrate on improving their minor league system and developing their own hitting talent. For some reason they've been failing in recent years . I don't have the answer but it's obvious that they aren't developing young hitters. They seem to stagnate in the minors and fail to get beyond AA or AAA. Is it the way they're being taught? Are they just bad at scouting hitting talent? I don't know.

So talk to the author and not us in here.

Farhan had every reason to be ripped prior to the conclusion of this offseason. I don't know why that's hard for you to acknowledge. He had a very good offseason. Now let's see it all come together.
I also agree with 99 in the sense that these deals greatly improved our team for 2024, but the overall direction of the team moving forward is still very much up for debate.

If these guys have great seasons, they are likely gone after it. If they have bad seasons, we are pretty stuck with them. I'm not blaming Farhan for this as they likely don't sign here unless we give them that kind of deal. But it is concerning that it's more than possible we are in a pretty similar position next offseason as we were to start this one.
reasonably decent playoff chances, and if we get in, Ray and Cobb should be back in the fold, maybe even Beck
I want to follow upon my comment above. I think Farhan ended up doing a decent job trying to improve the 2 areas this team was terrible at last year. Starting pitching and defense. They still haven't addressed the power issue other than at DH. That looks like an upgrade but we'll see. I have a feeling we'll be seeing a lot of low scoring games without a lot of power outbursts. It doesn't mean they can't win but I don't see a lot of exciting games. That could change if 3 or 4 players that are capable of hitting 20 or more HRs actually stay healthy and have a good season.
