I think a big difference was decades ago baseball was just another sport for athletes growing up. You played football, basketball, baseball, or maybe even boring ass soccer. Kids hit high school, then college and the minors and became workhorses that would throw 100+ pitches each time out.

but kids now a days pretty much play baseball all year long between teams, all star and traveling teams. And this starts at around 10-13 years old. In high school my kid played 130 games in one season between high school, the high school winter team, and travel ball. They are putting way too much strain on kids arms throwing that many innings for all those years. Then they hit the bigs and have arm issues.

Too much truth in this, unfortunately.

I liked it back in the day playing a variety of sports in the different seasons…Spring-Summer/baseball, Fall/football, Winter/basketball.

Nowadays kids are also being bred for throwing hard. It used to be good enough to throw 92 mph, but now unless you know how to work the zone 92 isn't fooling anyone. Its just not as sustainable to be hitting high 90's over the long run. Most guys need to reduce innings to maintain that velocity.

the throwing hard thing is also a real thing. And so is throwing more off speed pitches...especially at an earlier age. If you take my post above, factor in kids trying to throw hard, pitching way too much and throwing off speed pitches younger, its a recipe for Tommy John. I remember as a young player kids only threw fastballs and changeups. They didnt really start throwing breaking balls until 10th or 11th grade, and even then it was limited. Watch the little league world series now...them kids throwing all kinds of junk.
Snell is a Giant

2 years, $62m with an opt out

wow. I love this deal. Fair market value and not an over commitment on the years, win win. Our rotation is gonna be extremely formidable when Robbie Ray returns. If Harrison does what we think he can do then a very good 1-4

Nice pickup with Snell
I see you Farhan!!
With a little luck we have 3 aces in our rotation
With more luck it becomes 4 after Ray returns

Gold glove help at C SS and 3B

This.

Let's roll!
Where are all the haters now? You know, the guys ripping Farhan and giving him an F or D early in free agency. You know who you are.

Snell
Hicks
Soler
Lee
Chapman
Murphy
Ray

This is easily an A+ off season unless you believed there was actually a chance Ohtani and Yamamoto would come to the Giants.

Snell receives a $15MM salary for the upcoming season and has a $17MM signing bonus that will not be paid until 2026, reports Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle. That indicates he'll be deciding on whether to opt out of a $30MM salary next winter, although the delayed date on the payment of the bonus reduces the team's short-term commitment.
LFG Melvin already paying off big time
