How do you figure that?

J.D. Davis' agent Matt Hannaford disputes that the Giants negotiated in good faith. "In my 22 years in the business I've never seen a club in arbitration make their one and only offer less than an hour before the exchange deadline."

"The way the Giants negotiated gave JD no choice but to go to a hearing, which he did, and which we won. Its unfortunate the club has handled things the way they have, but I'm confident in the player JD is and the value he will bring to his next team."

stuff happens, it's a business not a buddy buddy system. Chapman is a Boras client so he holds out until into Spring Training. Once he's in the fold, Davis is expendable. the obligation is to the club, not let's pay JD like suckers for no reason

This kind of s**t gets around, you wonder why no one signs here when they are pulling this kind of s**t.
Originally posted by Garce:LOL. No one is going to pass on signing with the Giants because of what happened with JD Davis. They did just sign Lee, Soler, Chapman, and Hicks so its pretty hard to say that no one signs here. If the money is right and the Giants are looking like they are on the rise they will get players. They just will have a tough time competing for guys if the Dodgers are interested too

If anything the blame falls on Scott Boras for dragging free agency well into Spring Training. If the Giants had landed Chapman 6-8 weeks ago they could have traded Davis to someone who actually needed him.

Seems like Chapman and Bellinger both sat around for pretty weak offers. I remember hearing in here that Chap would be a $30m per year 6 year commitment, that didn't come anywhere close to reality..

That is because that was the projections on every MLB site. I think the market was very conservative this year, which is good... contracts are out of control. You still have big names unsigned. And I also think there was considerable doubt on these two players. Bellinger had a bounce back year but had consistency troubles. Chapman was projected to get $30 mil a year while having pretty much the same offensive numbers as JD Davis who makes 7. What this thread did was react to the projections, which isnt crazy. What is crazy is thinking Chapman is a better player than he is (which I remember hearing in here).

My reaction at the time was those projections were too much. That's what happened. He's more than worth what we gave him.
