Of course they won't. Not even close. That was a sarcastic answer to the patched up pitching, per Zaidi infused by totally unproven youngsters, with a good chance this plan may fail.

Gotcha. I think that our lineup is improved from last year, but is still no where close to a quality Major League lineup. So many things would have to break correctly for this to be a good lineup. Luciano will need to demonstrate why he has been a top prospect in baseball. Matos needs to be better than we all hope he will be. Chapman needs to prove last year was a bad season, not the start of a decline. Thairo and Flores needs to stay healthy and remain as consistent as they have been. Yaz needs to step it up. Bailey needs to build on last season, and be a .250-260 hitter. Lee needs to be a quality MLB hitter immediately and not take 2 years to develop like a lot of other KBO players.

A lot needs to break our way.
from mlb.com, pretty exciting stuff but we need more SP

GIANTS
Lineup:

  1. Jung Hoo Lee, CF
  2. Thairo Estrada, 2B
  3. LaMonte Wade Jr., 1B
  4. Jorge Soler, DH
  5. Michael Conforto, LF
  6. Matt Chapman, 3B
  7. Mike Yastrzemski, RF
  8. Patrick Bailey, C
  9. Marco Luciano, SS

Between Lee, Soler and Chapman, the Giants have added three everyday players who should help stabilize a lineup that has lacked continuity in recent years.

Rotation:

  1. Logan Webb, RHP
  2. Jordan Hicks, RHP
  3. Kyle Harrison, LHP
  4. Keaton Winn, RHP
  5. Mason Black, RHP

With Alex Cobb, Robbie Ray and Tristan Beck expected to open the season on the injured list, the Giants will be leaning heavily on a converted reliever (Hicks) and three relatively unproven arms (Harrison, Winn and Black) to cover a ton of innings early in the season and provide stability behind Webb.

I'm happy hey got Chapman because he really improves the defense at 3rd. Unfortunately, it takes at bats away from Flores who was their best hitter last season by for. I suppose he'll be platooned now at first base.
This doesnt change Flores role . The Soler signing did that. Flores will platoon at 1b and maybe get some time at 2b and dh on occasion

We need to dump Wade IMO. He's the worst 3 hitter in baseball by a mile. I absolutely love the Soler signing but replacing the best hitter we had in 2023 is counterproductive. Flores needs to play most of our games. I am not ok with him being a platoon player. Let him play first daily.

thats ridiculous to "dump him". Wade had the teams 2nd highest OPS and OPS+, hit 17 homers, and only grounded into DP 4 times in 519 PA. He also had the best OBP by a large margin. This is not someone you just dump. I dont think they need to do a traditional platoon but both should get plenty of at bats.

Dump might have been the wrong word, but he certainly should not be taking at bats away from Wilmer. I get that statistically he was better than most Giants last season, but is that really saying much? If we have to be creative to find him at bats, then do that. But to simply say he needs to platoon with Flores is not something I am ok with. He can start at 1st base 1 out of every 5 days. He can start at DH 1 out of every 5 days. He can spell Yaz 1 out of every 5 days. That should be enough.

And I still believe he has no business hitting 3rd.

lol what? wades obp had to be top 10 last year. yaz should be the one losing abs, not wade. i still have no idea why yaz and slater continue to get a pass from the fans and the media.

flores has his hot streaks but he mainly kills lefties

"Might"? It was obviously the wrong word. Wade can play 1b, of , and dh and is a valuable player on the team. No one would dispute that he isnt a 3rd hitter but there isnt a player on the team who is.

Flores had a great year last season but the real question is whether that was the exception and not the rule. The year before he hit .229 with an OBA barely over .300 and a slugging percentage under. 400. I think he will hit somewhere between the 2 seasons but he should split time evenly at 1b , get at bats at dh when Soler is out, and be a valuable PH.
I think the Giants could trade JD Davis. Blue Jays announcer guy was speculating they could be a buyer as they dont have a 3B after losing Chapman.

I think it makes sense for the Giants to try and move him for a vet SP.

Me as well. That's another great aspect of SFG baseball, we have some of the best coverage and in particular announcers you are ever gonna find.

I doubt they get more than a mid level prospect for JD unless they throw in more. I wish they could trade Davis, Bart, and Slater in a package deal for a decent starter but thats probably wishful thinking.

Getting rid of his contract will be good enough
