Kyle Harrison is giving me Blake Snell vibes. I hope he has a better career than him, but I have not been overly impressed so far. Let me explain.Harrison's stuff is good. Nasty. But it hasnt really translated into success, and I am not just talking about the Major League level.
With Snell, there are three different outcomes to when he pitches:
1) absolute dominance. His stuff is so good, that he is able to shove the bats up the other team's asses. This has happened once for Harrison since the callup.
2) Looks really good, but gives up cheap runs due to bloop hits, squibbers and being unlucky. This happens to Snell quite a bit, and has happened to Harrison twice already
3) gets lit up, which has also happened to Harrison twice already.
So while #2 isnt really a reflection of Harrison/Snell not executing, it tends to happen much more frequently than one would think it should. I dont know if its because command isnt as sharp as it could be, the crazy movement just moving into parts of the bat that lead to soft base hits, or whatever it is.
Bottom line is with both pitchers, their stuff is good enough that their stats should be much better. And they simply are not. Now I know that Harrison is a rookie, and his sample size is small. But his results are screaming Blake Snell to me, which isnt good. I now Snell is having a good year this year, but he has had multiple seasons where his ERA is in the 4s. I still have hope that Harrison could/will be better, but the parallel is there to me.

7 jacks in 22 innings. That's horrible.

I always felt pay for real talent, the rest can be young guys on team control or cost controlled deals.
If you are paying money and wondering if the guy is a real talent or not, then he isn't
that's $48m, which is megastar money, and all we get is some interesting eyebrows on the right side there

Lets not think Harrison is going to be Clayton Kershaw who is a once in a generation type pitcher. But the kid is a couple of years removed from high school and needs to develop his off speed pitches. WAY too young to be worried about his "lack of success" to this point.

I'm just saying he gives me vibes. Snell has had decent stats at times, but he should have far more success than he does based on how good his stuff is. His Cy Young year was brilliant. But he hasnt lived up to that at all since. His closest is this season, which has been really good.
Many people were comparing Harrison to Lincecum, which I find to be absurd. I think if Harrison can be a solid #2 pitcher, we should all be happy. I think the expectations for this kid are through the roof with a lot of this fanbase, and that not exactly fair.
