Still can't find out what we gave up here, this is from CBS:

"Presumably the caliber of prospect the Mariners get back will depend on how much of Pollock's remaining money they are willing to cover. The 35-year-old outfielder is due back soon from the 10-day injured list and slashed .173/.225/.323 with five home runs in 138 plate appearances for Seattle. He is owed the remainder of a one-year, $7 million deal."

maybe it's the old, cash considerations?

Don't know much about the other dude but pollack a proven veteran and we gave up nothing. Literally zero risk, one of the best kind of deals if we aren't getting legit talent back

You love to say zero risk but there is risk. The risk is you play him and he sucks. And you lose.

I'm less mad because it looks like they gave up nothing essentially, but that doesn't mean its a good deal. When you get a player for cash, that other GM is basically saying here...take this trash off my team. The only reason I don't completely hate it is the other option was Heliot Ramos. And Ramos and Pollack are probably the same player at this point, but Pollack is a veteran and a good clubhouse guy. Something this team of call ups needs. But its a couple week band aid that potentially mucks up the lineup in a month. Haniger is cleared for baseball activities and ready to start a rehab, and is a far better player. And when Yaz comes back, where does Pollack fit in. The giants will keep him and he will steal ABs from better players. Its kapler's way.

When healthy, the Giants OF/DH should be a combination of Haniger, Matos, Conforto and Yaz. Everyone else is stealing ABs.

This team can't fill out a SP lineup for the week without entering TBD and they are about to carry extra OFers who hit .173 and .245 in the last two seasons.
If Desclafini doesnt get hurt, they likely trade Wood. Although I don't think they can afford to trade a SP, the giants obviously dont trust Wood to face a lineup multiple times. They use an opener for all his starts and pull him relatively early. And he is a FA at the end of the year.

Ramos is doing in AAA what Slater is doing in the bigs.
Also, Slater > Pollock at this point.

Pollock move is low risk. Good defense, "sprint speed" 89th percentile.

sprint speed. lmao. He has stole 19 bases in 5 years and been caught stealing 6 times.

Typical Farhan move.Low risk for low reward. I've never seen a team built with so many castoffs and rehabbing player mixed in with AA players. The strange thing is they are still competitive. They have a good mix of decent players but they don't have the one or two players that can really make the difference. The starting pitching is a mess right now. I don't knw how well they can compete in the playoffs without another solid starter. Maybe they're hoping for minor league help.

Everyone thought the Marco Scutaro deal was a nothing deal. You don't know how these things are going to play out. Sometimes dudes just need a change of scenery and fresh start. We've seen this 1000x. I would have like the Giants to have traded Ramos and/or Bart for something a little better, in my opinion, but getting mad over a deal like this is something I wouldn't do.

Scutaro is one of the PTBNL All-Stars
I guess Kyle Harrison has been hurt? He did a rehab start in Arizona.

because you are looking at this as a one time thing...but really its a Farhan pattern. Low risk low reward. Adding more mediocre players. Adding utility guys. Shopping at the dollar tree for talent.

And more importantly, long term (barring another injury) there is no place for him.
