If anyone thought anything different they were delusional. But this was a brutal stretch and I figured they would go 1-5. Now they will play a bunch of teams on their level and things should get better.

Serious question. Do you think this team is a healthy Klay Thompson away from being a contender?
Probably not. I do think they can be a top 4 team in the West. Now if they get lucky and get the 4th pick in the draft and Wiseman takes his game to another level then its possible. But there are just way too many really strong teams right now to think that will happen.

fack no

Ok so Klay comes back, and assuming he's the same player as when he left, what will the warriors be if not contenders? A middle of the pack team? A top team in the West but not a contender?

Can this team be a contender with Klay? Yes.

But will it depends on a lot of things....most notably James Wiseman taking that leap and becoming a quality starting level player.

Do they have another teams pick (possibly #4, protected)?

Depends on the dev in the next couple of years from the young players. Particularly Wiseman ( and maybe another blue chipper this year, if the draft lottery falls right).

I agree with the premise of your take, but I dont agree with "just way too many really stonng teams right now." I think this is the worst the West has been in a while, and I think teams like LAL, LAC and the Suns only have a small window to compete for a title. Utah I dont take seriously at all.

What teams don't have a short window to win a title? The way the league is set up, teams are turning over every 3-4 years now.

I hear you on 3-4 years. I personally dont believe the Clippers, Lakers or Suns window will last 3-4 more years. When I said short window, I meant this year and next.
KL and George are in their late 20s. They definently have a 3 to 4 year window, if not longer.

I guess I just dont believe that KL and George will stay together for that time period.

Klay coming back to within 90% of his old form
Wiseman developing into what we think he is (wont see this until 22-23 season at the earliest)
If we keep Wiggins - he keeps improving and fills that Harrison Barnes version 2.5 version (same type defender - better scorer/slasher)
Draymond stays in shape and doesnt lose self-control under pressure - like when refs are s**tting on him
Jordan Poole and the draft picks next year pan out.

I also think they need a 3rd veteran and very good shooter to go with Klay and Steph . Klay and Curry were good enough before Durant came on board but the league is even more changed now than 7 years ago. Who that is and how he can be added, I dont know.

This bothers me a lot more than most of you.

Yes. They have Minnesota's 1st rd pick. Top 3 protected. If that doesnt happen they they get 2022 pick non protected.

Its starting to bother me too with the way he mostly sucks ass against the top teams.

You could say thats the whole team this year, but we need to see more glimpses of great play against top teams, if he is going to be one of the main reasons why the Warriors return to contender status

I think Wiseman will become a very good player in this league. My concern is timeline. Will be become a very good player in 2022? 2023? If it takes him longer, then his rise will not match with the end of Curry, Dray and Klay's prime. So he better become a real SUPERstar if he cant develop at the same time our core is still playing at a high level. Thats what happened in San Antonio. Kawhi became a star when Duncan, Manu and Parker declined.
