This is the NBA, not the NFL. The money is his no matter what. He's just too proud to drop his head and quit. And honestly I would think less of him if he did that than keep playing like s**t.

Nope. If he just quit he would not get the remaining amount left on his deal.

Well he doesn't have to officially file his retirement paperwork now. He can just claim he's too injured to play like Nash did and get paid.

Lol...except the fact that Nash was actually injured. Even though they weren't major injuries, he was constantly with doctors and trainers. Kobe isn't injured and I doubt he would fake an injury just to get payed. Unless Kobe actually does get injured, he won't retire because otherwise he won't get payed.

He's been complaining about his back all season and saying he can barely walk some mornings b/c its so bad. He's playing hurt as well as dealing with all the issues from his Achilles, kneecap and labrum injuries.

He just played back to back and 33 minutes tonight. He isnt hurt enough to not play. Plus, I dont think Kobe would do that. I think he will play the season out and let fans around the country celebrate his career.

Well thats why I said in another post if he's gonna continue to play then he needs to change his style of play. He's proven he can be a pretty good facilitator in the past and he can still do that without embarrassing himself every night. No one wants to see him going 4-20 every night. Its just sad and I don't want to see him get the Willie Mays comparisons for his final year.

Yup, I think the farewell tour is something he really wants. People have hated his guts over most of his career and this year they are going to cheer him and show their respect.

I think he'll get booed like crazy in Utah too and Jazz fans have been known for being pretty nasty towards players, i.e Derek Fisher when he came back with the Lakers after his one year in Utah. That s**t still disgusts me. The pilgrim Kobe stuff was hilarious though.

Was at the game tonight. Goodness...every time Kobe touches the ball, you can feel the energy and noise build up. Then you feel the utter disappointment every time he misses or passes it. It's like we're egging him on as fans. We all just want to see vintage Kobe again but it isn't happening.

Regardless, happy to see they made it competitive at the end. Sad to see that Kobe's confirming what we all knew – this is his last season. 20 years of Lakers basketball with him. He's been an absolute joy to grow with. Even though I want to say I saw a better ending for his career, I think we all knew it would probably be him going out in flames like this.

Great career

The haters are rejoicing right now, but it's always sad to see one of the all-time greats of his generation, no longer be functional/hang 'em up.

Now compare this to his greatest scoring season, where he averaged 35.4 ppg:

Injuries probably explain his decline more than his mileage...but what's interesting is that he doesn't seem to care what the poor percentages will do to his legacy. That's one thing I've always loved about him. He'll never be scared to shoot, f**k the naysayers....he's been flipping them the bird his whole career.

I do wish he would work to get himself some higher percentage shots though. Everything's a jumper for him now, and his legs just don't have the lift anymore.

Kobe's jumper has always been very technical, and his jumper is a lot like a golf swing where it has to be a perfect form/technique or he's f**ked. He had to develop a jumper, he didn't come into the league with a good one.

With both his injuries and millage, he had to change the way he shoots the ball now and it's really messing him up. Guys like Curry will never have that problem, look at Mike Miller he's old and he's gone through plenty of injuries as well, but he can still shoot. Reggie Miller, Ray Allen, and Curry, they will never lose their shot.

Should the Lakers retire 8 or 24?
