Yeah, the blues did put in a massive effort notwithstanding my previous comment.

Interesting talk at the end there about what's lacking for the blues, why they just can't get over the line.
What do you guys think? What's the difference between NSW and QLD?

Blues supporter Gouldy and Johns, kinda feel sorry for them, they just cant understand why their side cant win where it matters. Its easy PG, wait for Thursty, Cam, Cronk and Ingles to retire. Also its the little things if you do it right, that win the game and thats experience. And NSW have swapped and changed many times they have to stick to the best 13+ reserves and work on their same combinations till each player knows instinctively what their teamate does and thats qld, the maroons main guys know each others play inside and out. The blues have to get to where qld is.

Reading between the lines of PG's last comments, there's someone in the NSWRL whose influence is detrimental to the state side.

I think Gus & Joey hit the nail on the head... Lack of influence / fire power in the playmaking positions.
Origin is on another level from the NRL, you have a lot less time to make your decisions & execute them. NSW has struggled to find those players. QLD have gold in three crucial positions.
How fortunate can you be to have Locky retire & Thurston ready to slot right in. (To use an NFL reference that's like the 49ers replacing Joe Montana with Steve Young or the Packers replacing Brett Favre with Aaron Rodgers. Absolutely spoilt).
NSW problems are eerily similar to the Wallabies ever since Larkham retired & the Wallabies had to face the Daniel Carter, Conrad Smith etc, era.

Yeah, but what I took away from some of Gould's comments is that the lack of an authoritative playmaker is more than just a run of bad luck. He seemed to be all but saying that a person or persons involved with the NSWRL is the root cause of the problem. He didn't drop names for obvious reasons, but some of his language really had me feeling like he had someone in particular in mind when he was speaking.

Yeah, I picked up on that aspect too. It was all a bit cryptic tbf. If he means the selectors aren't giving the playmakers time to adjust/develop at this level & are tinkering with the team too much, I get that. However if he means the coaching staff are stifling the attack by installing a conservative forward oriented game plan that keeps the ball away from the playmakers, I find that hard to fathom.

My battery went flat, fatty and co did ask PG if he was asked to coach again his reply too old and its a different culture today, he was lucky to have Johns, Fitler etc in that era.
