The Raiders went from like dead last in NFL franchise valuation, to top 10 now in Vegas. They doubled or tripled their franchise value. A's will be similar. Ask yourself what owner would leave billions in franchise valuation on the table, to be held hostage to a city, where nothing gets done. Why did 50+ years go by without traction on a yard, how many more decades would they have to wait to have a new stadium. You either get the park done cuz you want 30+ years of MLB in your city, or the team walks.

When you want to get something done as an owner you can. See Stan Kroenke. LA wasn't volunteering to give him a stadium either. He made it happen on his own.

Oaklands owner is just a cheap POS like a lot of em.

Move to Vegas, you get a state of the art ballpark, club valuation doubles or triples overnight, there's more cash (tv money) that can be influxed into the roster, and now you are cooking. And guess what, this is a way better outcome for MLB. Everyone wins, except city of Oak. Oakland has no claim or ownership over the A's. They were a Philly club, then moved to KC, then moved to Oak in 68. So they were in Oak, prior to the moon landing, guess what stadium they moved into in 68? the Coliseum.

City of Oak had 50+ years to get their stuff together on a new yard and failed.

that's bs man

"Oakland is just a crap market"

Ah ok so Tampa is a great market lol

And when the giants almost left for Florida, was sf a crap market?

LA is probably the strongest market out there or one of them. LA franchises have insanely big valuations, and TV deals.

Oakland is the crappiest pro sports market in America. I'm not talking the fans, who are die hards and blue collar and support their clubs for the most part. I am talking about the city, which failed the fans, and lost three franchises in a few years. They had 50+ years to get a new baseball yard. The Coliseum, was never a real baseball stadium, it was a big multi use arena, that was out of style decades ago. I would say get your stuff together Oakland, but guess what it will be harder now. Those pro sports teams bring a lot of dollars, that are now gone, and I don't see any teams coming back any time soon, where would they play?

They don't want to subsidize stadiums, which is the biggest crock of s**t in all of american business. Why should taxpayers foot big chunks of the bill to build these billionaires ginormous stadiums? It's crap.

My understanding, is City of Oak secured over $300m in public funds as of last year. The problem imo, is City of Oak really wants to jerk the team around, and the club was estimating not having a new yard get built, until 2030 or later. Per MLB and the A's, this is not acceptable. It's moving at the same speed as this HS rail project. So they should move to a better city, which will put up a new yard, much faster. City of Oak had over 50 year head start vs LV, and lost the race to get a yard up. The club gave a notice in 2009, that they needed a new yard, it's up to the City to agree to partner with the club or not.

If Oak doesn't want pro sports, fine, but I think it's a net loss. Tourism, jobs, tax money, being an enjoyable place to live and play, raising civic pride, pro sports plays a big role here, and the City has hollowed itself out in terms of pro sports, they have no one to blame but themselves, imo. It sucks for sports fans, but if you are a Oak Raiders fan, you are used to this by now. Not just Jed York benefits from Levi's, we all do, I do. This will hurt OAK a lot longer than it will hurt the A's and Las Vegas will benefit from MLB.

I think it's a cost benefit analysis. What is the cost to the public subsidy? Okay, now what is the benefit to the public, or to the community? I suspect the community wins here, in the long term. So the subsidies, pay for themselves. The clubs are an asset, to the people and the community. Like anything in life, it's an investment you can either choose to make, or you can decline.

Both can be true. Fisher is greedy and sucks as an owner and Oakland is run by shortsighted morons.

Prediction-In 5-15 years, Oakland leadership will line up, hat in hand, begging for an expansion franchise in whatever sport and they will give whatever team it is an absolute sweetheart deal, loaded with subsidies.
Prediction: Las Vegas as the home of professional sports teams is an exceedingly temporary arrangement. As the water situation in the southwest worsens in the coming years and decades, society will have an epiphany regarding the wisdom of building cities with millions of inhabitants in the middle of the desert. ... And the A's will be relocating once again, this time the f**k out of Las Vegas.
... until then. ... So long A's. ... f**k Rob Manfred.
