Oakland Athletics thread

pretty crazy that this is now in motion. i do look forward to going to Vegas to see the Giants play tho.
this took place cuz the city of Oakland is not open for baseball
Vegas will welcome the team with open arms so they will get a sports franchise and the Bay Area will lose one
another one I should say
LV with pro hockey, pro football, and pro baseball.

Fisher is a dick and Oakland is run by small-minded twits. This was never going to work out and it really sucks to see, the A's belong in Oakland.

Only successful team has been the Knights IMO

will take a while for the raiders and A's to build a local fanbase

gonna build a billion dollar stadium to keep fielding a s**t team, disgrace

I think the City of Oakland viewed it as what can we extract from the A's; my philosophy is if you try to compute how much travel there will be to Vegas to see the A's, how many ppl will be employed working at the stadium, how much local business will benefit from stadium foot traffic, over the course of many seasons, this is a big win for Vegas and it serves them right, it sucks for a fan relocation, I can't say I am an A's fan.. I just know the City of Oakland, and I know they didn't make anything easy for the org.. you are correct they should have looked at the big picture it is small minded to lose this franchise, everyone knew that yard stunk and it's why no one came.. look at the Stick I went to the stick to see SFG it was not a good fan experience, foul territory darn near 40 yards of it that is not a baseball stadium, now once they built the other place, once you build it ppl will come.. /rant over
Well now Nevada law makers wonder if 500 million dollars of public money is worth it

it is..

consider,

Another benefit to hosting the Super Bowl that politicians tout is the local tax revenue, an estimated gain between $12 and $22 million for Los Angeles with millions more going to the state of California in 2022.

granted.. that is the SB.. but that's approx $16m in tax revenue, just city revenue..

for one game.

A's will bring a lot of games, the per game will be drastically less of course, but imagine 81 games a year for 30+ years, with some playoffs and ALCS or World Series in there and try doing the math.. this is also just local business impact, which is a fraction of the benefit to the community, there are many others.. the tip of the iceberg, if you will
I hope Oakland gets a MLB team in the future. I know there are talks of redeveloping the Coliseum area.

A's had no intention of staying in Oakland

Salt Lake already has the funds, the land, and the backing of the city but I doubt it happens.
I was so bummed to hear they're leaving. I'm a Giants fan but I catch an A's game once in a while. Love the blue collar feel there and you can just tell that everyone is a real baseball fan who is there to see a ballgame. I love my Giants but you definitely can't say that for Oracle Park. Sucks to go from having two MLB and NFL teams to one each
Damn now Mark Davis s**tting on A's ownership

gonna make some Nevada politicians think twice lol

i think they tried and it was made so difficult and costly that they read the room and got the heck out of there. Oakland is not open for pro sports. And they will have zero pro franchises in the major sports. other cities compete with one another to get a pro sports franchise, Oakland had a what can this franchise do for me type of attitude.

had the franchise remained in Oakland, that new park wouldn't go up until 2030s and it's simply not tenable to remain in the Coliseum that long
