People acting like fighters today are better than previous fighters are just ignorant and misinformed!

Which Gracie are you talking about?

Who else brother? Royce, of course. I was backing him post one. I think most fighters today are sissies personally, including modern day Gracies.

Wait, you're saying if Royce was to fight right now he'd win or Royce in his prime would win in today's UFC??

If anyone is gonna be Gracie family bias it's gonna be me. But either Royce today or Royce in his prime would lose in today's UFC. Ground fighting has evolved over the last few years, a lot of wrestling is being mixed in with Jiu Jitsu that there's so many more ways now to pass guard. Not to mention the fighters are much much more advanced in striking than they were say in the early or even late 90's. A lot of fighters aren't as easy to take down like they were back in the early UFC days, everyone knows to sprawl.

I do think that if Dana White was to give Royce a favorable match up (closest one I can think of) in Ryan Hall, might be able to win. But I think that would be an all out Jiu Jits fight and honestly I see Hall taking it via heel hook.

After Royce Gracie was dominated by Matt Hughes, I just don't see anyway Royce could win in today's UFC, sorry.

Edit: I think if any Gracie would win in today's UFC it would be Ryan Gracie or Rickson Gracie.

Gracie was 40 years old when that fight happened.

Go watch UFC 5. If it weren't for timed rounds, Gracie would have submitted Shamrock.

Fighters now are winded after a 3 minute round. Gracie fought a 90 minute match in Pride against the Gracie killer.

Not sure what you're getting at, I'm not saying Royce isn't a good fighter. But fighters now (or today) would school Royce, I'm not sure how anyone can say other wise.

Ya. Royce was so successful because no one knew how to defend against BJJ.

he would constantly pull guard too. who the hell do you see pull guard anymore? very rarely. nobody now wants to fight from their back in todays MMA.

Put Royce in his prime against Frank Mir or Brock Lesnar in their prime. Then put one of these other "greatest fighters" against Frank Mir or Brock Lesnar in their prime. Who wins? Royce is the only name out of any of those fighters you can even say has a shot of winning.

That would probably be the two worst match ups for Royce Gracie. I'm over here trying to give Royce a favorable match up in Ryan Hall, and you wanna give him two heavy weights that were two of the best on the ground at their prime. Frank Mir is probably one of the best BJJ fighters at heavy weight, no-gi he can hang with the best. Mir would attack Royce's legs like nobodies business via heel hook or knee bar, not to mention most likely over powering him while in guard. As for Lesnar, who also knows how to sprawl and past guard, you also gotta get past his huge ass fist, no way Royce's striking will effect him. You ever seen Lesnar put out Shane Carwin, that's exact how it will end unless Royce isn't KO'd in the first minute.

Like I said, if anyone is gonna be biased towards the Gracie's it would be me, but let's not kid ourselves Royce isn't winning in today's MMA/UFC. Shoot even Jiu Jitsu has evolved, I'd question if he could even last in Metamoris or EBI (Eddie Bravo Invitationals). There's things like the X-Guard, De La Riva, 50/50 guard, Barataplata and rubber guard that Royce wasn't familiar with in his prime.

You can disagree with me all you want, but for those that train I think would agree what the outcome would be.
Gracie was a one trick pony. But I'm sure his Jiu Jitsu would come in handy in today's game. But yeah, he would get thoroughly whooped. Even Severn said he went easy on Gracie during their fight because he was afraid to hurt him (250 lbs vs. 170lbs) and that eventually cost him the match.

Here, let me fix that for you:

"but for those that train 6 months for one 9 minute fight, and not a tournament where you have to fight 4 times in a day, against different opponents you can't specifically train for... in fights with no rules... and being the smallest guy in the tournament fighting guys twice your size... I think would agree what the outcome would be"

Dude was smaller than everyone he fought and you're b***hing he kicked their asses from his back?

Here's a 308 lbs weight difference.

FYI Royce's kicks and punches are only meant for distraction and to irritate the opponent.

What does that have to do with anything?

What does that have to do with anything?

You think training six months for a single opponent makes you a better fighter than someone who trains to fight 4 different people in one day, without knowing which 4 people he'll be fighting?

You think training for a single 9 minute fight makes you a better fighter than someone training for 4 fights with no time limit?

You think training for a single fight with strict rules makes you a better fighter than someone training for 4 fights with no rules?

You think fighting someone of equal weight as you makes you a better fighter than someone fighting people twice his size?

I will disagree with you all I want. "Those that train" know how hard it is to fight someone only one weight class above you. Why do you think fighters cut weight to make the lowest possible weight class? This dude was the smallest fighter in the tournaments, and won. This dude beat someone who had 300 lbs on him, and he beat the 400 lbs dude from his back.

Gracie Jiu Jitsu is for street fighting. And Royce Gracie won in the closest thing to a street fight you could buy on PPV. BJJ and MMA is for sport fighting in a ring. And Royce won in that, too.

"Those that train" train BJJ because of Royce Gracie. Because he is the greatest UFC fighter of all time. And that's the bottom line, cause Stone Cold said so.

What?
