Even if he beats RDA he still won't even have a title defense or have cleared out a division. The 1st two division champ is intriguing until one actually thinks about how getting fast tracked takes away from the legitimacy of it. MMAth doesn't work, what makes champs great is fighting all different types of fighters and defending the title when everyone is going for you.
If we are talking ALL TIME, Conor needs at least 2-3 more fights to prove it. If he beats RDA, drops down to beat Edgar, and then back up to 155 where he wants to stay to clear out all contenders his name rightfully will belong on this list. He's one of the top fighters of today, but he debatably isn't even the top fighter in the ufc at this moment.. Jones, Mighty Mouse, possibly even Cruz if he gets past Dillashaw all have a legitimate claim to that.
beating RDA would put his name out there, but would be one of the first to be dismissed in the discussion. you can't claim to be the best all time when you have holes in your game.
Where do u rank Silva? I, and many, believe hes the GOAT, but he had the same exact style of fighting as connor. Both have tremendous standup, but holes in wresting. Silvas BJJ is much better then Mcgregors though
I rank silva #1*.
But ya you pretty much answered it yourself. Silvia's take down d may be lower level but he's dangerous off his back (as in he's at least active with his guard). He just hardly gets to showcase it. When Conor got put on his back he just tried to tie up and begged the ref for a stand up.

McGregor is a brown belt in BJJ so he's no scrub, and considering his flexibility I bet his sumbission game is better than most think, he just hasnt had to utilize it yet, he's only fought one wrestler. But ya no doubt Silva is on another level. However, McGregor did display great strikes off his back against Mendes, something Silva is very good at as well.

The difference with Silva is that he went against multiple ground artists and ended up prevailing in the end. Silva tapped BJJ black belts. If all people were given to judge Silva was his fight against Chael then there would be allot of doubt in his P4P status, but he fought multiple ground experts who fought there way to top contender and won. Right now Conor only has Mendes as a notch on his belt in that category.
So if he got both belts and retired no doubt he would be regarded as one of the top by popular vote, but many if not all hardcore fans would say he doesn't belong in the top 3 maybe even top 5 because he never cemented his accomplishments. Again this is if we are talking all time, if he retires after his next fight he will have only fought 3 people at the top of their respective division Mendes, Aldo and RDA while seemingly avoiding Edgar... Comparing that record to many others on this list and his goat status takes a big hit.
PS: Tbph I could care less about PPV #s when it comes to comparing fighters as allot of fans of this sport are fair weather hype train sheep who took one BJJ intro class bought an affliction shirt and thought it made them badass. If we want to start a who is the best as self promotion poll, Conor will win that in a landslide.
This. Conor is a legit fighter, no doubt. But he really is a cash cow as much as anything.
And even that "notch" of beating Mendez comes with a few asterisks.

I believe this applies for all martial arts individually, but there's BJJ and how you apply BJJ In the octagon. Ex, Pettis as a purple belt when they fought submitted Ben Henderson, who just got a black belt...
But going back to the original point..... Yes mcgegor beating RDA gives him consideration, but that doesn't fill out his case like GSP, silva, BJ, Liddell. Etc. who have all had LONG reigns as champs and didn't stop dominating until retirement or next generation of fighters started coming in.

Well if mighty mouse is on it then cruz should be too. You have to consider his WEC career which was under the UFC banner

Exactly that was my thought process as well. In my eyes Cruz was defending his title last night. What he did was nothing short of spectacular, he made history, against a tough opponent.

I'm considering adding Werdum, but he needs to beat Valesquez again.

Anderson Silva has such quick reflexes, reminded me of Mayweather Jr's reaction time when dodging blows and countering.
