So the shift is banned?

I dunno if I've been so uninterested in baseball my entire life....and you know how I am about the Cardinals.

Manfred is f**king killing this sport.

Yup you nailed it. Beauty of the game is no clock, which is unique in team sports, and you can play the field where you want. Oldest cliche there is: hit it where they ain't. You don't like the shift, as a hitter, lay down a friggin bunt once in a while they aren't even playing that side of the infield come on. Only way to actually enforce no shift you would have to have certain zones players can occupy and what are you gonna have offsides calls? Joke.

No throwing over 99 anymore. Too hard for the poor hitter

This isn't a unique concept. They have illegal defense in basketball.

IMO the shift has always been a loophole that doesn't seem to fit the spirit of the way the game was designed. If you can say "Hitters should be able to bunt to 3B to counter it", you can just as easily say "Pitchers should be able to get guys out without blocking an entire side of the field".

They need 2 small painted lines that designate where you cant line up past and thats all. Obviously they would just point it out if the player was beyond the line before the pitch was thrown. Banning the shift is nothing compared to increasing base size. That actually alters the dimensions of the game itself.

Only reason I could see a positive of larger bases are to reduce the feet being stepped on at first base maybe. Iunno

Dang. That's wild man. I know how you are about the cards. I'm feeling the same about the giants. Was really excited for the season after a crazy 2021 season but these silly unnecessary rule changes and what not, are just that, silly and unnecessary.

Might have a change of heart once the season starts whenever that is
Feels like baseball is just going to die once all the boomers die off. Its become boring AF. Not a lot of big personalities to keep you entertained. Cheating in world series going on with the Astros, who's punishment was not a punishment. Pace of play is awful, seriously being forced to watch a Red Sox Yankees 4 hour game should be classified as torture. And Manfred is killing the league. I loved baseball growing up, my kids could care less about baseball.
Jeff Passan's Twitter got hacked by some nft group. lol
It's over LFG!

They have forms of illegal defense in every single sport. As much as I agree that professional hitters should be able to hit the other way, I also have no issue with putting limitations on shifting. The shifting has become a joke.

And no, I dont want to see my middle of the order power hitters bunting.
