2014 Sochi Winter Olympics thread

I decided to look up the best Winter Olympic performances by the US since WW2. Here is the list:


1. 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA - Statistically the US had its 2nd best performance as judged by percentage of total medals won. US placed 3rd overall. Apollo Ohno won gold and silver, Derek Parra won gold and silver, Bode Miller won 2 silvers, and Sarah Hughes won gold for individual women's figure skating.

2. 2010 Wintery Olympics in Vancouver, Canada - Statistically the US had its 4th best performance as judged by percentage of total medals won. US placed 3rd overall. Bode Miller won gold, silver and bronze. Shani Davis and Bill Demong won 1 gold and 1 silver. Johnny Spillane won 3 silvers. Lindsey Vonn won gold and bronze. Apollo Ohno won silver and two bronze.

3. 1952 Winter Olympics in Oslo, Norway - Only 13 countries competed and statistically, the US had its best performance as judged by percentage of total medals won.US placed 2nd overall in medals.

Andrea Lawrence was the hero and won 2 golds

Maybe if we whine like the Canadians do over ice dance the Olympic Committee will give us some of them.

Ya...in the most corrupt sport in the Olympics. And there were wide spread reports that the Russians and Americans were in cohoots to give the Russians gold in team event and Americans gold in individual event. And amazing it worked out that way. Canadians should be gold medals winners in that event.

Didn't the French give the Canadians a medal in the past... after the Canadians screwed up their routine, even falling down like fools?
