Cavs were introducing Andrew Wiggins today to the media/fans.
They introduced him as "Mitchell" Wiggins lol
Cavs set a new standard of incompetence every year.

I like Simmons. He is annoying at times, but hes a real fan. I hate all the fake, politically correct, teleprompter analysts. Simmons actually said "I hate the Lakers, so im mad they got Randle", on TV. He was caught fist pumping after the Celtics took James Young.
I dont listen to a word he says about any sport outside of basketball, but he knows his NBA, and hes pretty funny sometimes.
yeah that guy's a douche

Agree. We wouldn't have Grantland without him.

Was out of town this weekend but watched the draft.
-Happy with Randle. All I wanted was the Lakers to draft the BPA, regardless of position, and that was Randle at that point.
-Aaron Gordon was the first surprise of the draft, but I totally get what Orlando is trying to do. Between Oladipo, Gordon, & Payton, they have 3 of the best defensive prospects in the last two drafts. They're going to have to find someone who can put the ball in the bucket, but they have a clear and concise plan that I can respect.
-Same with Philly. They're basically doing the same thing the Niners are doing, in terms of redshirting talent. They're going to be a handful in about 3 years, especially if Embiid can maintain some degree of health. They got quite a haul for Payton as well.
-I love Marcus Smart and hated seeing him get selected by Boston, but they got a whole lot of guys who can't shoot in that backcourt now. (Rondo, Bradley, Smart) Can't see them not moving one of those guys.
-Phoenix had an excellent draft. Good value with each pick.

Kinda what I'm worried about. I think Orlando can be one of the best defensive teams in the NBA, but after losing Afflalo, I'm hoping Victor, Tobias, and Vucevic can all stay healthy and step up.

I thought Philly hit it out of the park. They are loading up big men and will have a top 5 pick next year as well. It will be painful for 76er fans to watch next year but the goal is to win a title and they are putting a team together that with luck and health might get there in a few years.

How did Sixers got great value for Payton? They moved back 2 spots and picked Saric...got a 2nd round pick from Orlando in 2015...and got the pick (2017) they traded to Orlando in Dwight Howard trade back. That pick was top 11 protected for 2017 and top 8 for 2018.

They got a mid-1st round pick & a 2nd in exchange for moving 2 spots back. .That's great value.

Great post. Agreed with everything except Philly. I'm just not sure the redshirting talent idea can work in the NBA. It works for the 49ers because we had the depth in place and the luxury. Philly might have gotten great talent, but its quite risky when you are counting on these guys to all live up to their potential. It would be similar to us drafting lattimore, carradine and Brandon Thomas, but not having gore, Justin smith and mike iupati on the team at the time.

Who would you have drafted over Embiid that could truly be a franchise maker? I would say no one. Why not swing for the fences there and take the guy who can possibly get this team to become one of the best teams in the East in 3-4 years. The 76ers were going to suck next year no matter who they selected.

No I guess I'm not disagreeing with the Embiid pick. I 100% agree with the Embiid pick and it is really the only thing they could have done. I just don't believe that they will be a handful in 3 years, mainly because I believe the NBA is much more of a win-now league rather than the NFL. Even if Embiid becomes a top player, anything can happen in 3 years regarding his supporting cast

I hear you, but they don't remotely care about next year or probably the year after that. This is a multi-year tank job. Drafting Embiid & Saric (and likely doing next to nothing in FA) means that they'll be a Bottom 5 team next year as well. Flash forward to 2016, and their lineup's going to look something like...
PG: Michael Carter-Williams
SG: Emmanuel Mudiay
SF: Dario Saric
PF: Nerlens Noel (I think either him or Embiid gets moved), Ivan Rabb
C: Joel Embiid
...all combining to make like $15M, and they'll have nearly $50M or in cap space. They just need a couple of those guys to work out and they suddenly become a very appealing team to big time free agents. (Kevin Durant is UFA in '16)
