I like the signing. They had to do something quick to counter losing Uribe. I just hope it means they won't try to get a young SS still. I am afraid it means they won't though.

Blue Jays Close To Signing A.J. Pierzynski

The Blue Jays are close to signing A.J. Pierzynski, according to Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times. Even though John Buck signed with the Marlins and Miguel Olivo declined the team's offer of arbitration, the Blue Jays still have two capable catchers. Jose Molina will return in 2011 and J.P. Arencibia showed power in a late-season call-up and won Pacific Coast League MVP.

The Dodgers, Marlins and White Sox were among the teams interested in Pierzynski, who had a number of other potential suitors. Chicago did not offer the catcher arbitration, so he would not cost the Blue Jays a draft pick.

Dodgers Non-Tender Russell Martin

The Dodgers non-tendered Russell Martin, making him a free agent, the team announced on Twitter today. Jon Heyman of SI.com reports that they tried hard to trade the catcher first (Twitter link), but Dylan Hernandez of the LA Times reports that the Dodgers still have some interest in Martin (Twitter links). The last proposal Martin made the Dodgers was for $5MM, plus $1MM in incentives, according to Hernandez.

Dodgers Close To Signing Rod Barajas


After non-tendering Russell Martin, the Dodgers are close to signing Rod Barajas to a one-year deal, according to Dylan Hernandez of the LA Times (Twitter links).

Barajas, 35, excelled in 72 plate appearances after the Dodgers acquired him for the stretch run. He had three hits, including a homer, in his first game as a Dodger and batted .297/.361/.578 overall. He doesn't reach base often, as his career .284 on base percentage shows, but he has some power.


Yankees To Re-Sign Mariano Rivera

The Yankees will re-sign Mariano Rivera to a two-year, $30MM deal by tomorrow night, according to Christian Red of the New York Daily News. Rivera recently received a three-year offer worth more money from a rival team, but wanted to stay in pinstripes, even if it meant accepting a deal for fewer guaranteed years and less money. Agent Fernando Cuza confirmed that interested teams other than the Yankees have called about Rivera.

Yeah, this was a real good signing for them. He can play first and DH, and at that price it is a good deal. He isn't that old and is really consistent in HRs and RBIs.

Im a Mets fan and this guy is pretty legit. Pitched very good for the Mets last year.
