I'd say the odds of him getting cut are pretty low since the Bulls are contenders, but that contract was a gigantic mistake, and I can't help but wonder if the Bulls would get out of it if given the chance and free up some cap space for FA's that help them out more than he does. I'd say the odds are only 5-10%, I just wanted to list the potential cuts.

One of the writers at Grantland is writing a very funny running diary about what it's like to be a reporter that's "staking out" these negotiations. This excerpt made me laugh and shake my head.

The meetings are held at posh New York hotels and often switched for reasons only known to the parties involved. Any reporter with access to a phone can determine the location. It would probably make more sense for the meetings to take place in either the league or union headquarters. Both are located in New York and the sides could alternate the home site if it were a point of dissension. But that would make too much sense for a league bleeding money and in this position in the first place, right?

See i do not like this from a Kings fan POV. We have a ton of cap space and now every other team will have the same opportunity to sign FA's because they were able to shed uwanted salary. Now we are competing with every other team rather than just a few who have cap space Unless I am understanding this wrong.

No, you're understanding this correctly. This will allow some teams to get under the cap, and others to lessen or eliminate their luxury tax burden. It's bad news for a team that's under the cap, although I don't think it's a huge deal. IMO, free agency is generally a bad market to play if you're a rebuilding squad.

They're currently debating the concept of a multi-year amnesty clause, where teams can wait to use it for 2-3 years. They're also debating whether or not teams that are paying luxury tax should be allowed to use the MLE (which will likely be a maximum of a 3 year/$15M contract under the new deal) or the bi-annual exception. (usually around $2M or so)

If they're allowed to, you'll likely see the championship contenders vying for the services of guys like Baron Davis, Rip Hamilton, or Ben Gordon.

I tend to agree, but it will hinder our ability to resign a guy like Dalembert (although I was really hoping they were going to make a run at Chander, Nene or Gasol). It was already looking like he may go to MIA, now this kind of just seals the deal. I feel like all that cap space that was saved was for nothing. Very frustrating.
