Through 5 games, LeBron's averaging 20.4 PPG, 4.6 RPG, & 7.2APG, and he's playing very well.

It's funny, had he spent his entire career in an offense (as opposed to him completely dominating the ball), I wonder if his numbers would be high enough for the general public to consider him in the conversation amongst the best players in the game.

I would think they would need to blow teams out, but either way, he would still be considered as one of the best ever as everyone knows his overall ability as we still do with Oscar Robertson. If you think about it, BOS, even though they are old, has a similar type of team if only "star" names are looked at.

That's 4 people who could be considered within the top 50 greatest players ever.

Same goes for the Magic Johnson Lakers or Bird Celtics. Of course, the big difference here is they didn't jump ship.

Personally, Kobe is the only player who doesn't have more than 2 other "great" players on his team. Neither did Jordan. That's a huge compliment to Phil Jackson.

I was always a Lebron fan, not a Cleveland fan so it was easy to follow him to Miami. Call me a bandwagoner I wouldn't disagree but I didint "jump ship" because I never really had a ship. lol

That's fine, but it's not like his assist and rebound numbers are jaw dropping, even on a Per 36 minute basis. Wade's a great scorer, but Kobe was putting up 28.5/6/5 alongside Shaq. He's also been sharing shots and touches with Gasol since '08. And when he didn't have a second guy, he was putting up 35.4 per game.

I'm not saying that LeBron isn't either the best or second best player in the game, because he is, but I hope that this season reveals the nature of statistics in basketball to a lot of people. I heard so many people talking about him averaging a triple double, which never made sense to me. Being around other great players lessens your numbers across the board.

But my point was that if LeBron was a 20/7/5 guy throughout his career, not many people would consider him the best player in the game. Obviously it's early, but I don't think we'll see his numbers shift all that much over the course of the season.

I could be wrong, but I think they are still tryin' to figure out his exact role. I personally expect his numbers to get better. Rebounds will take a hit if he is playing point, but I expect quite a few 10+ assist games.

He is in a new role, with new team-mates and there will be some adjusting period. I don't think one can take the stats off the first 4 games and confidently feel that these will be his numbers over a 82 game season.
