England (Great Britain, or colloquially Britain, is comprised of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, all four have international soccer teams with very disparate histories), although Ireland actually fought on the side of the Germans in the second world war. The one you "kicked our asses in" (?).

And yes, as the New York Post pointed out, you beat us 1-1. And it's spelt "cheerio" !

Thanks for the history lesson. Proof positive that M-Theory is true !

lol. keep reading the thread. a few posts after this was initially posted you'll read something that you'll either find hilarious or embarrassing, depending on your sense of humor (sorry: humour).

Aha, got there about a milisecond before you did, what a clown I am ! Sorry, hadn't seen the film but shouldn't have jumped to conclusions based on a stereotype.

Anyways well done in the last game. Not too dispirited over here, hope we can both go through, wasn't that impressed with Algeria or Slovenia.

Not too bad really, expected an avalanche of hate like when Beckham got sent off against Argentina years ago but hasn't been that bad. Hey ho at least he got his hand on that Altidore shot otherwise we'd be in real trouble right now.

Looking back on it a few positives from the game but as usual too much hype here about our chances, we're not that great. Then again who has been so far in this World Cup, Germany against ten men ?

We really, badly need a good game in this World Cup (apart from ours and the Germany game), can't wait to see Brazil and Spain, hopefully they'll go for it and not settle for an easy win like Argentina did.

think it's just Ledley King so no, not really; I'd rather see Matty Upson in there anyways. More worried about who's going to score for us if people mark Rooney out of the game for long periods.

I had heard Rooney had some sort of ankle injury, but I don't think its supposed to be serious?

that's a good point. No one has stood out except for Germany, who did look really good even before Cahill got sent off, but the Aussies were obviously old and overmatched, so who knows how good the Germans really are? One of us will have to face them though, and I have a hard time seeing that turning out well for either of us...

and yes, x1000 we need a really good game in this WC. a lot of teams have yet to play so I'm holding out hope, but many more game like todays and I'm going to have a hard time justifying the time investment.
]Hadn't heard about Rooney...but that would worry me hugely.

And wouldn't get too carried away by Germany yet, they have one or two great players (Lahm is fantastic) but that defence and midfield will be severely tested against any good team. As you say, Australia are not a good team and in international football when you're down to ten men you're as good as dead.

They are decent but Spain, Portugal, Brazil, Argentina and maybe the Dutch are much better.
