before Kobe won any of those MVPs fans were chanting MVP for him every game.

Ugh. Don't get me started on this.

2004-05 MVP...Steve Nash
2005-06 MVP...Steve Nash
2006-07 MVP...Dirk Nowitzki

you guys crack me up

2004-05 Shoulda Been MVP....Duncan or Garnett
2005-06 Shoulda Been MVP....Kobe
2006-07 Shoulda Been MVP....Kobe

2005 should have been Duncan.
2006 Lakers were a 7-seed. Sure, it was a bad team, but MVP's don't come from bad teams bounced in the first round.
2007 is the same thing. Kobe has been the best player in the league for a few years, but MVP's don't come from teams that are barely above .500 and are as good as the Warriors. Dirk won 67 games that year. He deserved the MVP. I agree that Nash didn't deserve it either year he won.

I understand that is the reality of how people vote, but I think it's an unfair and illegitimate argument. How many games a team wins is dependent upon far more than just one guy. IMO, the best player and the MVP are one and the same. If Dirk has Smush Parker, Kwame Brown, & Luke Walton starting next to him in a very competitive Western Conference...I don't even think he makes the playoffs.

IMO, that argument rewards/punishes players for factors that are completely out of their control.

They should rename the award "Most Valuable Player on the Best Team".

Are you kidding me? Dirk has made the playoffs with these players.......:Jason terry, Jason kidd, ERICK DAMPIER, JOHN SINGLETON, RYAN HOLLINS, Josh Howard, and a host of no names...Do you really think that the mavericks minus Dirk aka the best power forward in the game would even win 40 games? Dirk is the reason they go to the playoffs every year.. his near 50 percent FG average and ne
ar 90 percent FT average and near 40 percent 3pt average and near 10 rebounds a game help this team TREMENDOUSLY!!

I noticed how you didn't capitalize Jason Kidd, Jason Terry, and Josh Howard. That would have totally ruined your argument.

Seriously. He made the playoffs with Jason Kidd, Jason Terry, & Josh Howard?!?! Amazing!
Me being a Maverick fan, I would know more than you guys that these three people are not exactly the elite in the nba... maybe jason kidd, but not terry and Howard...

Uh, we're talking about Smush Parker, Luke Walton, and Kwame Brown. You don't need to be an expert to see the difference.

I understand where you are coming from, but you are making it seem like the three i mentioned are all stars..when Jason kidd is slowing down..did you watch the game with the clippers and the lakers? that was all dirk nowitzki with shawn marion a little bit...josh howard is always injured and jason terry is as inconsistent as they come..
The above videos are auto-populated by an affiliate.

Yikes. There's no comparison between Jason Kidd, Jason Terry, & Josh Howard and Smush Parker, Luke Walton, & Kwame Brown. Are you kidding me? Jason Kidd is one of the greatest PGs ever, still a top assist guy and the best rebounding guard in the game, Josh Howard was an all star in 2007 & is consistently between 17-20ppg, and Jason Terry is the reigning 6th man of the year.

Smush was barely in the league before playing for the Lakers, and was barely in the league afterward. He's now playing in....China.

The game where Dirk shot 5-14, was completely ineffective in the first half, and the Mavs still won by 18 in LA?

Yeah, I saw that one.

All this is true, but Josh Howard is the T.O. of NBA, Jason kidd has lost a step and sometimes falls in love with the three and Jason Terry scores alota points, but takes alota shots to make up for those points

Gotta love homerism. Oh, and Tim Duncan is the best PF in the game, not Dirk.

Yes, but I think you are having a difficult time grasping the utter terribleness of everyone on the Lakers roster other than Kobe and occasionally Lamar that year. There's not a snowballs chance in hell Dirk takes that team to the playoffs.

Maybe I am..all I know is that Dirk has not exactly had world class talent around him either..before anyone knew about devin harris and he was a no name... who did dirk have? Nash? josh howard and stack occaisionally?

lulz..maybe you were watching a previous game where the mavericks blew out the lakers (like that 32 point blowout at home worst in your history) but there was more than one assist to dirk....

Between which two Lakers championships did that blowout happen?
lol whatever, the mavs coulda had a championship, but we let the heat off the hook

He's had superb talent around him. Steve Nash & Jason Kidd as his PGs for almost his entire career? They're arguably two of the ten best PGs of all time. Pretty nice to have those guys feeding you the ball.

All-star forwards next to him in Josh Howard & Antawn Jamison. (who was the 6th man of the year when he played for Dallas) And the reigning 6th man of the year and perennial 15-19ppg scorer in Jason Terry.

Dirk's had plenty of talent around him in his career.

Ugh dont say Josh Howard and All star in the same sentence..i know he went but that was a fluke...He is consistantly hurt and takes the ball over like hes kobe or sometthin..hes OK but he is not as good as you are making him seem
