2005 should have been Duncan.
2006 Lakers were a 7-seed. Sure, it was a bad team, but MVP's don't come from bad teams bounced in the first round.
2007 is the same thing. Kobe has been the best player in the league for a few years, but MVP's don't come from teams that are barely above .500 and are as good as the Warriors. Dirk won 67 games that year. He deserved the MVP. I agree that Nash didn't deserve it either year he won.
I understand that is the reality of how people vote, but I think it's an unfair and illegitimate argument. How many games a team wins is dependent upon far more than just one guy. IMO, the best player and the MVP are one and the same. If Dirk has Smush Parker, Kwame Brown, & Luke Walton starting next to him in a very competitive Western Conference...I don't even think he makes the playoffs.
IMO, that argument rewards/punishes players for factors that are completely out of their control.
They should rename the award "Most Valuable Player on the Best Team".

Dirk has made the playoffs with these players.......:Jason terry, Jason kidd, ERICK DAMPIER, JOHN SINGLETON, RYAN HOLLINS, Josh Howard, and a host of no names...Do you really think that the mavericks minus Dirk aka the best power forward in the game would even win 40 games?
