MVP historically lags by one year.

Funny that you aren't complaining about the year Kobe won MVP but didn't deserve it.

He sure did deserve it. Deserved it last year, too. He's been the best player in the league for at least the last 4 years. Sure, LeBron puts up fantastic numbers when he holds the ball for 16 seconds of the possession on every offensive play, but that doesn't make him the best player in the game.

It's amazingly coincidental how LeBron's supporting cast plays as well or worse with him as they've played everywhere else, but Kobe's supporting cast has their best seasons in LA.

2005 should have been Duncan.
2006 Lakers were a 7-seed. Sure, it was a bad team, but MVP's don't come from bad teams bounced in the first round.
2007 is the same thing. Kobe has been the best player in the league for a few years, but MVP's don't come from teams that are barely above .500 and are as good as the Warriors. Dirk won 67 games that year. He deserved the MVP. I agree that Nash didn't deserve it either year he won.

I understand that is the reality of how people vote, but I think it's an unfair and illegitimate argument. How many games a team wins is dependent upon far more than just one guy. IMO, the best player and the MVP are one and the same. If Dirk has Smush Parker, Kwame Brown, & Luke Walton starting next to him in a very competitive Western Conference...I don't even think he makes the playoffs.

IMO, that argument rewards/punishes players for factors that are completely out of their control.

They should rename the award "Most Valuable Player on the Best Team".

Are you kidding me? Dirk has made the playoffs with these players.......:Jason terry, Jason kidd, ERICK DAMPIER, JOHN SINGLETON, RYAN HOLLINS, Josh Howard, and a host of no names...Do you really think that the mavericks minus Dirk aka the best power forward in the game would even win 40 games? Dirk is the reason they go to the playoffs every year.. his near 50 percent FG average and ne
ar 90 percent FT average and near 40 percent 3pt average and near 10 rebounds a game help this team TREMENDOUSLY!!

I noticed how you didn't capitalize Jason Kidd, Jason Terry, and Josh Howard. That would have totally ruined your argument.

Me being a Maverick fan, I would know more than you guys that these three people are not exactly the elite in the nba... maybe jason kidd, but not terry and Howard...
and also, smush was solid in the beginning, then he started to fade away, but kwame just sucks, luke walton is solid also...
