"Talking to a source who confirmed the Sharks may make a MAJOR play for Kovalchuk should the money be opened up. There are also rumors of the Sabres and Sharks talking deal. "

wonder how we pay a goalie then...

WOW!!!!! so im guessing were letting marleau walk??? no way we can have jt, heatley, marleau, kovalchuk and then we gotta sign pavs and guchi. im fine with seeing what greiss and a vet has to offer but it'll be better if we surround them with better defense.

Why the eff would we do that? This is absurdity. Marleau was the best scorer on the team this year, and one of the best in the playoffs.

.. We best not let him walk.

No chance Marleau goes anywhere after his play against the Blackhawks. I think there's a very good chance Nabby is gone at the beginning on free agency though. He's been rather disappointing in the playoffs for the most part.

For the most part?! Watching him get beat through the 5 hole over and over and over was SO discouraging. We let him walk and resign our major players: Pavs, Seto, and Marleau. It seems to me that goalies come a dime a dozen nowadays -- look at the circuit of goalies that were used in the playoffs as an example! We need a good D man -- hell, we could even trade Heatley for a promising young winger and a great D man. Of course, that probably won't happen but I'm just saying... Heatley was not visible in the playoffs at all and wasn't he brought in for that?

Well he was attempting to play with a torn groin. You just can't do anything on that. He shouldn't have been playing in general. But.. I imagine we'll see what he can do next year.

By the way, recent signings (rookies):

http://sharks.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=530671 - C Tommy Wingels
http://sharks.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=530671 - D Doherty, C Viedensky

I'm really excited for what Doherty might bring us in the future. 6-7 220 -- That's some NHL size.

I say "for the most part" because although he had some terrible games (far too many) there were also games that he played extremely well in. Unfortunately, those games don't outweigh the fact that down the stretch he just isn't doing enough to help this team win, and it's most likely his time to go. As for Heatley, no way he goes anywhere, he was hurt in the playoffs. The fact that he was hurt and didn't produce makes me ask the question of why he was even on the ice. Heatley did help in the assists category though.
id trade any of our guys for claude giroux

Here's a hint on Evgeni Nabokov's future. Henrik Karlsson, a San Jose Sharks goalie who played in Sweden before sitting on the bench for the Sharks' playoffs games, tells a Swedish newspaper that the Sharks want to keep Nabokov and Thomas Greiss.

His one-year deal expires this offseason, so this huge goalie (6-foot-6) appears to be making other plans since he wants to play in the NHL.

As for Nabokov, many have speculated the Sharks would let him walk and sign a cheaper goalie -- maybe Marty Turco or Chris Mason. And some think the Washington Capitals may be interested in signing Nabokov. ESPN Insider's E.J. Hradek writes: "The Caps could use a veteran to mentor young Semyon Varlamov. Nabokov could be just the right comrade for the job."

However, if Nabokov stays, then that means the Sharks are likely letting Patrick Marleau walk in free agency.

ive read that stupid s**t before. i'd let nabokov walk over marleau any day of the week. im sick of tired of nabokov's sucking the life of the whole team with a weak play off goal yr after yr and letting a goalie who he no business of outplaying him do just that we should surround greiss, stalock, karlssson or a cheap fa goalie with elite defense and keep marleau. its been proven you dont need to pay a goalie 5 mil per yr to win the cup
There have been some rumors that Patrick Marleau sold his house in Sarasota, Calif. -- which is in Northern California -- and bought a place in Los Angeles. And that rumors, of course, led to speculation that Marleau is looking to sign with the Los Angeles Kings.

But San Jose Mercury News reporter David Pollak did some digging and found that Marleau actually bought a place in Los Gatos, Calif., which is close to San Jose. Pollak writes, "Sure, it looks like a signal that he plans on staying with the Sharks. But not necessarily -- his wife is from this area and there have been plenty of players who bought or built homes here even as their careers were taking them elsewhere."

This, of course, doesn't mean Marleau didn't buy a house in L.A. But buying a new house near San Jose might be a sign that he will look to stay in San Jose. It's all speculation at this point, though.

If, however, Marleau's gotten signs that the Sharks want to keep him, it might spell the end for goalie Evgeni Nabokov in the Bay Area.
