hmmm....Raycroft is a good signing. We needed a backup for Lehtonen.

Burish? WTF? We just signed Krys Barch who is our resident tough guy on the 4th line. I knew they wanted a right handed physical winger, which is why I wanted them to get Raffi Torres...Now we got Barch, Burish, Sutherby, and Segal. Way to go Stars, stock up on those 4th liners and still not add ONE DEFENCEMAN

Don't worry, Negro. The Blackhawks signed defenseman John Scott. He played in 51 games with the Wild last season posting a whopping 2 points with a -3 rating.
at the hawks, yes they have a lot of skill but all their bruisers are gone. they will be an easy team to punk around. i hope to see vancouver chicago for the 3rd straight time in the playoffs, vancouver would finally win that series this time around

With the D Vancouver's got now. Yeah. Easily. Vancouver just needs some more big-time scorers after the Sedin line.

will not be surprised to see vancouver and pittsburgh for the cup. both have real good defenses on paper right now. philly has a sick d too but if theyre gonna depend on a magical season by boucher or leighton theyre kidding themselves, thats why they went after turco and nabby. dw upsets me so much on his lack of building the sharks d

As least ours isn't as bad as the Stars' is right now. But Phoenix, LA, and now Anaheim all have D's at least as good or better than ours...

We have Scott Glennie (8th overall pick last year). He is 19 and just finished a year in Canadian juniors with 89 pts in 66 games on the highest scoring line in Juniors (plays with Schenn the #5pick by the Kings). He is a speedy goal scorer who is legit.

He could make the jump and play on our team on the 3rd line this upcoming season. But he just looks way too damn skinny (6-1 and 170lbs) to make the jump. I think he needs some seasoning in minors to add more muscle and make the jump next year. But both Neal and Benn made the jump early and were able to have 20-goal rookie campaigns, so its possible he arrives early.

Our other prospect is Philip Larsen (D) who is an undersized guy but good skater and good with the puck. He is penciled in to play for our AHL team next year. I think we will let Trevor Daley go after next season and then call up Larsen. I can't stand Daley so I hope this is what happens.

Other then those 2, we don't have anything. Erikson (LW), Neal (LW), Benn (LW/C), Wandell (C) Grossman(D), Fistric (D), and Niskanen (D) are all under 25 and already are playing major rolls on our roster. Long term I think our team is set at forward, except for maybe 1 more right winger. But Defensive depth is really lacking.

Well Glennie seems pretty well set to make that jump soon. 6-1 170 isn't too bad. He just needs to add about 10 pounds, because there are some 6-1 180 guys in the NHL right now. Not on the Sharks since we're a team that pretty much requires you to have at least some power to go with your speed, but I'm sure elsewhere.

Nick Bonino - ANA, Dave Bolland - CHI, Brandon Yip - COL

That's about all I could find doing a quick check, but he'll fill out over time I'm sure since he's only 19. But yeah, your defense is swiss cheese right now.

In other news... Only Bergeron and Willie Mitchell left as legit FA D-Men to get...
Kubina signs with Tampa Bay Lightning: http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=533636
Found this in part of the Free Agency Blog. Vancouver may be trading Bieksa or Erhoff: http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=533377 (Scroll down to just above "back to the grind" which is in bold on their page).

There has also been hot news on the trade front. Several reports, most notably out of the Columbus Dispatch, suggest that the Blue Jackets are interested in either Kevin Bieksa or Christian Ehroff. One of those two defensemen became available with Thursday's signing of Dan Hamhuis in Vancouver. The asking price is believed to be Nikita Filatov.

Also on there, Bobby Ryan turned down a 5 year deal @$25million

Getzlaf and Perry are both earning 5.325 million, I wonder if he wants to make more are just be even with them?

He said he wants to make "just under" them, yet turned down the 5-year, 25 million dollar deal... Sounds like he may not want to be in Anaheim for anything less than equal or more than what Getzlaf and Perry make.

Another update: Matt Lombardi to Predators - http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=533723 - Very good signing for Nashville.

Dman Kyle Quincey gone - back to Avs: http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=533377

Article talking about the Flyers says they could have the best D in the NHL now. We're probably in the bottom half...

Quote:
Philadelphia's top six -- Chris Pronger, Matt Carle, Kimmo Timonen, Coburn, Meszaros and O'Donnell -- could be the best in the NHL.

Canucks clearly has one of the D's in the Western Conference. For those who didn't know, Erhoff was +36 last season.. +36... Vancouver's Top 6 are: Hamhuis, Erhoff, Edler, Salo, Bieksa, O'Brien.
Will phili be able to keep up with scoring teams from the Western Conference?
