Commanders paying his salary help at all?
The Niners still take the cap hit. I'm not sure if there's way in th NFL for a team to absorb another team's cap hit. If there was I'm sure they would have tried to work that out.
Didn't the texans do that with Diggs?
Nope
got it, but it is similar in that it helps the team in the next year

For those wondering, the issue with a Deebo for Allen deal is that Allen costs $17M for any team trading for him, so on top of the $15.68M lose, they'd lose another $17M in cap room, and they'd likely decided not to pay Allen whatever he may want, especially being 30 now, or this season, I doubt the 49ers give out another Hargrave like deal to a 30yr old IDL, and restructure just creates more cap room loss in 2026.

I didn't think about that part. What is our cap space AFTER deebo hit (including the raised total cap)?

Extend kittle
It's as good as done imo. Same with Warner. We're good. I think we might release Juice also but those are the major roster moves

I read it went from 61mil to 34mil. Big hit but a few moves they could clear up 15-20mil

So how is taking an additional $20M cap hit for a measley 5th round pick instead of releasing Deebo effective June 1 a good thing? We could have signed a couple of pretty good FA's with that money. The Commanders taking on Deebo's salary doesn't give us any more cap space, right? I think Lynch and Shanahan have lost their marbles!!!

Because they gained $33 mil in cap space next season. They can always free up more cap space by extending Fred Warner and George Kittl, which I heard gets the 9ers $20 mil back in cap space.

Correct.
2025 cap space is not important. It's already more than enough.
2026 space is the priority.

Ssems like they are sacrificing this season for 2026, which makes no sense if they are in "win now" mode with their older core group. If they are throwing in the towel, and in rebuild mode, then it makes sense, but not for making a Super Bowl run this season.

They would have had to pay $15M in roster bonus on March 15. Now they avoid it.
