Alex Smith's potential...

After reading everything about mini-camp, here's how I see our season turning out:

After a great offseason, Alex is named the starter.
We start out 2-6.
Hill is named the starter.
We finish the season 7-9, barely missing the playoffs (again).
We go into the offseason with the same needs we've had the last 7 years: Pass Rush, QB, DB
We draft players who don't fill our needs.

And so on until the end of time.

its starting to look like the alex smith show, theyve been praising this guy a lot lately. i hope we finally get the guy we wanted in the draft a few years back. i think the reason for all his improvement is mental. he doesnt have nolan here to question his every move and with less money the expectations and pressure are way lower so he can just concentrate on football. i think alex will blow them away this year.

Alex has a fire in him. He has said in the recent past he re-signed with the 9ers to PROVE to all doubters he is indeed a legit NFL starting Q.B.

Now that it appears Alex injured shoulder, arm and confidence are again healthy ... Just watch.

Now tell me who the heck would not jump for joy if Alex Smith came forward this season and clearly proved to earn the starting Q.B. job?

I'd jump for joy when he becomes a leader and wins some games.

It's kinda true though...doesn't it seem like our seasons have gone that way for a while now?
it's just a matter of time until Alex gets his 3rd shoulder injury, ending his career.

pool anyone?

Uhm, no dude...

In 2007, Alex was 2-1 as our starter (with Hostler, and that loss from the beastl team called the Steelers)... then Bernard came free and crushed him. Then Dilfer... then Hill (with Tollner help).

In 2008, it was the Martz/JTO show... turnover bonanza... Nolan booted... Sing takes over and yanks JTO for Hill while forcing Martz to change the offense to fit Hill.

Don't make it sound like Alex came in each year... failed... and then was replaced by Hill who made all right with the world.

I'll put $5 on the Packers game @Lambeau in November.

I didn't say he did...

But you can't deny that the last two seasons, Hill has come in and won games. And yet, here we are, debating on who should be our starter.

Just saying such things shines a huge spotlight on how despicable fans can be. I can forgive you... Alex can forgive you... but one day, you will have to answer to Jesus.

Good Lord man,why do you even bother being a fan if it makes you this miserable? So you think that players we have cannot improve? You think that once a guy is drafted,if he isn't an immediate pro bowler he is a bust?It amazes me that there are so many negative fans that for all the good that has happened for this team in the past few months cannot let go of the Nolan No-win mindset.Things are improving in ninerland, but all you guys can do is b***h,moan and complain about ever single move made by anyone in the organization. I understand why some people call some niner fans whiners, some of you give the rest of us bad names.Lift your head up and get your tail from between your legs,we are free from Coach Asshat and his perpetuation of stagnation. You should be proud to be a Niner Fan,I know I am,and always have been.

Yes... he helped to win some games.

BUT

Look at the circumstances of those wins, and how the team started to alter things for the better as Hill was given the nod. He's a decent QB, don't get me wrong. But I personall think Hill is one lucky fella. He gets to step in when our team starts to figure things out and plays staggering opponents. Obviously, everyone likes Hill... but the opinions that count actually consider these things... rather than simply looking at the W/L columns. It is this reason that they are hopeful that someone can step in and beat Hill out Sure, the think that Hill can win some games... but he has not been SO fantastic as to just hand him the job or stop looking for an upgrade.
