He's decent, but he doesn't get the interceptions to be a stud. 8 in 5 years isn't enough. At least he's a decent tackler for a cb.

I really wonder if the defensive scheme the 49ers have been playing is ppart of the reason they don't get more INTs. Same for lack of sacks. I'm not saying some of it isn't on the players but some defensive schemes rely more on containment than attacking. Some coaches teach that you should go after the ball while others just want to protect the edges and take away the deep pass.

I don't know if stud is the word I'd use but he's very good and the fact that he doesn't get targeted often proves that. Then again an argument could be made it's cuz the rest of our guys haven't been very good on the other side since Ward left. Hopefully that changes this year.

I think the people who said the secondary was ass based on the chargers practice should apologize because in the practice game they could not move the ball at all.

That was a pretty entertaining game. Some things that stood out to me -- the Luke's have to go. Farrell is terrible. He couldn't block and he couldn't catch. I haven't heard any more about Dinkins after his post injury tryout, so I guess they didn't sign him. There has to be a better option out there somewhere. Luke Gifford has been sidelined with some kind of injury, which is fine by me. Garret Wallow is a much better LB and needs to make the 53.

Dugger had a nice play downfield while covering Gadsden. Hopefully, he'll continue to develop and will become an asset when the Rams start running their 3 TE formations.

Another nice game by Stribling and a Kaelon Black appearance finally. The guy runs hard and they even had him lined up in the slot on a couple of plays. I don't think I've seen them do that with any RBs outside of Juice and CMC so that was encouraging,

Weird game by Cowing. Really nice punt return, but he failed to impress much as a receiver. Watkins looked better as a receiver but less so as a returner though he did have a nice move to make a guy miss on one of his returns.

Still waiting for the D-line to show out more consistently.

Finally, for the record. Mac Jones is not better than Brock Purdy. Full stop. I'm not even sure he's as good as Kurtis Rourke might eventually become, but it's good having him as the back-up for another year. Martinez looks like an ideal practice squad guy. Probably not good enough to get poached for another team's 53 but a good emergency QB to have in case someone goes down. Go Niners!

Man was I wrong on Christian Haynes. Glad to be wrong since he's on Seattle but I thought they got an absolute monster at G.

Secondary is still concerning IMO, especially at safety. I think most of us felt better about our corners(losing Green isn't ideal tho)

Also considering Herbert was only out there for one series it's not quite the same thing as him being out there all day long.

Tho as I've said when people were acting like we're doomed, he also knew he couldn't get hit during practice.

Reality is we have to wait til week 15 to see which team is better and that's assuming both teams are healthy.

Personally tho, I'll always take the game Ws over practice Ws.

Unlike our friendly Seahawks fan I don't take extra time out to see what's happening with Seattle until they play real football. I'm pretty sure he hasn't captured the starting G spot so just in that regard he's vastly under performed what I expected from him.
