I'm still not a fan of the new stance. I wish he'd just go back to his college stance. He should sit with Nick and pick his brain on proper stance technique because he's losing so much juice in his first step. He's stands straight up rather than exploding forward.

Ehhhh, a cheapie effort sack but one for the stat enjoyers.

There are a lot of growing pains happening here with the scheme, stance, role etc. but he's been a bit underwhelming so far in 1-on-1 situations. He's having a hard time capturing the corner with straight speed and easily gets neutralized once the tackle puts hands on him because he's sub 240 and has no power element to his game.

I really wanted Cassius Howell, but I think Romello can turn it around. He's a rookie and I think he'll learn how to use his speed better as the season goes on

I liked Howell, too. I thought he was a safe pick at edge.

I still have faith in Romello turning things around, tho. While his pure 1-on-1 pass rush hasn't been good, he hasn't been all bad. He's surprisingly done good stuff in run defense and group rushes(ie stunts/games).

I mean sure we kinda are, but what about those snaps when hes doing what his limited role is supposed to be (rush the qb) and get completely stonewalled ?
For a 25 year old DPR hes not even half the player Bryce Huff was, and Huff was an UDFA

And what is happening isnt a particular surprise. I guess our scouts thought that his speed would enable him to win more, but in reality the tackles going against him dont have to worry about bull rush at all, and something like a mere chip completely takes him out of the play. Hes small, and if he doesnt win with speed, he doesnt have a wide arsenal of moves. That spin move hasnt worked once.

And philosophically, I hate to say it, but having a DPR this day and age when everyone is moving into direction of versatility, is also kinda questionable. More and more offensive coordinators try to exploit specialist players and not let defenses sub and go no huddle trying to gain an edge by running against DPRs and passing against base interior linemen

Romello has done a solid job in the little things so far. Biggest thing for him is to keep grinding and stay off social media. Hearing that he's taking things on Twitter personally is a bad look.

Hopefully he'll be ok with the club.

Romello's value is in his hybridness. He can drop and cover or rush the passer. He'll be able to hide Raheem's coverage schemes, and make the QB reads harder.

On the pass rush side, he has enough lateral and explosive quickness to generate pressure via dogs and stunts with the kind of athletic DT's that Raheem likes.

I do Hope Romello's does develop into a great pass rusher though. Our defense will be so much stronger with a good bookend pass rusher opposit of Bosa.

I did like his hustle and effort on not letting Willis take the sideline. I thought he earned that sack (btw I was surprised by number of people who never thought a sack could be given for scrambling qb going out of bounds behind the LoS)

But I kinda need to see more in the PR department especially if hes a specialist who only does this. A dpr who has issues rushing the passer...is a problem.

Shanny hasn't ruled him out even after this surgery

If he's able to play, wants to play, let's it be known and they actually let him Dude gonna gain even more respect...
