A year with him under Mike Evans will do him wonders.

Cosell: "consensus talk means absolutely nothing to somebody that has a brain"
Exactly.

Agree, and I'll just add that any advice from Jerry on staying in shape and running hills would probably help him too.

The 49ers offense became so explosive after Jerry came on board. But it didn't look like it at first after Walsh benched Jerry, after all his dropped passes that first year.
If Kyle can find that hall of fame receiver for his offense, that will go a long way to getting him over the Superbowl hump.

With Stribling the 49ers have some tall receivers. Mike Evans, Christian Kirk, and even Pearsall aren't small. If you can't beat press-man coverage, maybe you can out jump them. I still remember Jake Tonges out jumping the DB to score the winning TD in the first game against Seattle last year.

I watched Brad Graham's film breakdown of Stribling and you see all the great physical traits. I said it before that I actually saw similarities to DK Metcalf, but still didn't see him as that level prospect.
There's plenty of positives and I could be very wrong about his value in the long term. But my big issue with using the Georgia tape is that their pass defense was not good last year. They were mediocre at best. Chris Brazzell cooked them way worse than Stribling did, and he went in the third.
Anytime Stribling faced quality corners, he was dominated and shut down.
Vs.
Mansoor Delane, LSU (R1 Pick, KC) – 2 catches, 14 yards
Julian Neal, Arkansas (R3 Pick, Seattle) – 2 catches for 6 yards
Brandon Cisse, South Carolina (R2 pick, GB) – 2 catches, 30 yards
Oklahoma (multiple prospects, ranked in top third of nation in pass defense) – 3 catches, 32 yards
He did a bit better against Miami but the larger body of work and struggles against top corners bothers me.

Lets be careful with the outcry. I know some here dig deeper than others and have their opinions, and that is fair.
Most of us, though, don't really know. We go off of consenus boards made by the similar folks that say Brock Purdy just throws checkdowns. They don't really watch NFL games. You want me to believe they wat all college games? They're lazy, and they have put forth this groupthink that their prospect rankings have credence and deserves respect. It doesn't.

You'd have to look at the tape to ascertain why he was "shut down". There's a lot of factors as to why a guy might have games with low numbers, so simply stating the numbers tells us little without the context as to why. I hop someone can shed light and look at the all-22 of those games.

I get that no one is saying "here comes the next Rice"....
but damn.... it has a minor Rice like feel... blue collar guy, work hard mentality. Son of a Brick layer, Son of a Marine...it is not the same, but it has the same real world -simple- hard nose feel to it.
Let's hope we see something unique in the near future. We always have first in, last out guys. Every team in the NFL does, heck every team in the NFL has hard working blue collar guys too.
You just don't always have that mentality in a dude with fantastic size, and speed.

TBF versus Delane, nobody did anything. Delane was only targeted 35 times all season at LSU. only allowed 14 catches....so roughly a little more than one per game. Cisse 38 targets and only 18 catches allowed. Those dudes were pretty elite. And I'm guessing he's not drawing CB1 coverage, at least initially.

I was about to post yhe same thing. After reading his post I went to YouTube. Had to watch Chambliss' highlights vs the guys/teams listed. It was hard to follow just Stribling in a highlight for the QB. Plus it was just highlights and not every throw but every game listed i seen 3-4 times Stribling is wide open and ball goes somewhere else. That's with limited viewpoint and only a fraction of the snaps.
So im with you, you cant look at a box score to tell if a guy was shutdown or not.

I listen to Cosell and value his opinions more than any of other radio or media pundits. He doesn't make predictions or rank players on his big board. He just analyzes film and reports what his eyes see. I hope he's right about the talent he sees in Stribling but we need to see it on the field in NFL games.
