bosa got injured and williams got injured. that's why it was bad. it's not a mystery

Williams wasn't looking that great before he got hurt imo. And we spent two other picks on DT just last year. Kinlaw, Hargrave, Ford. Just saying, We spent a lot on DL. And it continues to be a problem. Can't afford any more mistakes. Hoping they finally got it right with this.

You do understand that it takes at least a year for defensive linemen to get acclimated to the pro game, right? Aldon Smith was a very rare exception.

Apparently this guy is an exceptional person and leader. Reports and teammates love him, he was a team captain for the cowboys. I also read he's a good run blocker.

i haven't read anything negative about him yet. Sounds like a great trade at a position we desperately needed.

He plays offense too?

Stuffing the run, blocking the run, stopping the run. lol all the same s**t. DL blocks the run, OL blocks for the run. Hahah

I really was asking. Dude looks like he can come in on goaline sets and take souls! But I get it hahaha

I like the pick up of Osa and expect our second year D linemen to be better this year.
I LOVE this trade! I like everything about this guy, so far. Also, everyone keeps saying that he's trash against the run but that's not what I'm reading at all. Dude just looks the part.

Good sign, now just need another DE, probably Joey bosa if you want someone on the cheap

Williams was doing what he was drafted to do yr 1 very well. He was eating up doubles and stuffing the run. Once Bosa got hurt he was forced to play more off the edge as a pass rusher vs being pushing inside to rush (which he has said he prefers).

They still need another DPR if they don't feel Huff is that long-term. I expect someone in the draft to be that dude.

Imagine having a Bosa at each end and an Osa in the middle. Announcers nightmare.
Honestly, this trade kind came out of nowhere and its a good move by the organization. Is a 3rd round pick too much for him? Who knows right now. What this trade gives is a reasonably cost-controlled pass rushing DT that seems to complement the current group (pass rusher versus run stuffer mix). On paper the 49ers should have a decent interior rotation this season and with Williams and Bosa back, we could see a dramatic improvement in the performance of the defensive line. Still need to find a situational edge rusher as well as another DT for the rotation, but there's the draft still to come. Will probably need to determine if Huff is better off being released soon.

Same. I haven't really watched him, just some clips. But most reporters are saying he's also solid against the run too. You don't get 20mil a year for just being a pass rush specialist as a DT, especially not when you don't have great sack numbers.

The Cowboys drafted hom in the 3rd rond. Using a late 3rd round pick for a player that has proven himself is better than drafting someone who might be good. Does he fill a need? Yes. He can pressure the QB from the inside. Are the Niners better than they were before they got him? Yes. He's also under contract through 2028 so he's not a rental.

The whole point of drafting and making trades is too improve the team. Not every move is going to be a blockbuster but as long as it helps the team then it's a good move.

3rd rounder is the perfect pick to give up for him because Niners absolutely suck in that round. Moody, Cam Latu, Ty Davis Price, Danny Gray, Trey Sermon, Ambry Thomas, Jalen Hurd, Ahkello Witherspoon, Beathard, Jayair Brown, Tarvarious Moore. Puni, Stout, Nick Martin are the 3 most recent & I think all of them will be good. Fred was a 3rd rounder so got to give them major props on that one.

I would go with a younger cheaper DE, the draft may be the way to go for edge help at this point.

Unless Bosa is coming cheap.

The sad reality is most 3rd rounders suck. Case in point i just looked at the 2020 3rd round draft class to see how many players made it and i only see a handful of impact players. Most are just role players. I think we as fans and even the NFL over value draft picks. I've said this earlier, if you can trade for an impact player for a 3rd or 4th round pick you need to pull the trigger.

This offseason can still fall apart if we lose Trent.

Extend Trent and then I'm comfortable calling it a successful March. The goal right now should be to put ourselves in a situation where we just go for BPA in the draft and extending Trent completes that goal.
