it's not working because Shanny continues to hire his type of coaches... SOFT... this is why injuries is always part of his regime..

What an interesting, demonic idea. But isn't MacDonald the brain trust behind the D?

this would be cool, is there any chance he would keep our 4-3 going or would he do more hybrid 3-4 of what he had in Atlanta?

If he's "forced" to run the system we want and not the system he's comfortable with then it's Steve Wilks all over again. If we're willing to commit to a 3-4 (which we don't have the LBs to run) then let's go. If not then chase someone like Jim Schwartz.

Raheem has experience in both the 4-3 (Tampa and Atlanta) , and the 3-4 (Washington and the Rams). Raheem also experience working under a couple of guys who ran earlier versions of this system in Monte Kiffin (along with Gus Bradley) and Dan Quinn. The Shanahan/Morris connection dates back to the 04/05 Tampa Teams, and they also coached together in Washington, and Atlanta. There is a lot of connective tissue there.

MacDonald's scheme works because they have a bunch of big, strong dudes up front who are able to destroy whatever blocker is in front of them. They just don't care how you line up, they plan to beat you at the LOS first. IOW, they have several guys that do what Mykel Williams was beginning to do before his injury.

What MacDonald does so well is give you different looks but focus on taking away the middle of the field. You go outside and their speed gets you. It helps to have a rookie like Nick Emmanwori doing all that.

Sherman still has connections on the team and would know.

Might be wishful thinking on my part, but listening to the presser, the context of Kyle's answer seemed to be more about internal candidates specifically.

I mean I hope so, but I'm gonna assume the worst

I hate to be a doomer, but choosing Bradley to be the DC will likely be the move that gets Shanahan fired. That scheme is too damn basic for 2026 and it HEAVILY depends on elite talent to function. Unfortunately, this team doesn't come close to drafting good enough to even make that scheme passable in 2026.

All he did was state the obvious, that Gus is the top internal candidate, and he is.
