Everyone (including 49er fans) is overlooking the 49ers defense. Again. Everyone is focusing on Mac Jones. Or Baker Mayfield. Fine. Absolutely no one has brought up the line wrecking play of 49er rookies Mykel Williams, Alfred Collins and CJ West. For those of you who were not old enough to see the 49ers Gold Rush of 1976-1977, this is what it looked like. Everyone on that defensive line was a threat to blow up every single play in every single game. You just did not know who was going to do it. This is the sixth game of the NFL season. This incredible defensive front is becoming a force in front of our eyes and NOBODY is taking this into consideration.
I think it's because our pass rush has been very insufficient without Bosa and we just lost YGM who was arguably our best pass rusher without Nick. Will be interesting to see if Givens is activated and whether Davis can play or even if Collins will play. DL is banged up and Tampa Bay has a pretty good OL and QB potentially playing some of the best football in the NFL so far this year.
I like our defense this year but hard to see us stopping that offense without a pass rush. Hope I'm wrong of course.
