Everyone (including 49er fans) is overlooking the 49ers defense. Again. Everyone is focusing on Mac Jones. Or Baker Mayfield. Fine. Absolutely no one has brought up the line wrecking play of 49er rookies Mykel Williams, Alfred Collins and CJ West. For those of you who were not old enough to see the 49ers Gold Rush of 1976-1977, this is what it looked like. Everyone on that defensive line was a threat to blow up every single play in every single game. You just did not know who was going to do it. This is the sixth game of the NFL season. This incredible defensive front is becoming a force in front of our eyes and NOBODY is taking this into consideration.

I think it's because our pass rush has been very insufficient without Bosa and we just lost YGM who was arguably our best pass rusher without Nick. Will be interesting to see if Givens is activated and whether Davis can play or even if Collins will play. DL is banged up and Tampa Bay has a pretty good OL and QB potentially playing some of the best football in the NFL so far this year.

I like our defense this year but hard to see us stopping that offense without a pass rush. Hope I'm wrong of course.

I guess now that teams are gearing up to stop the run more and more we will look to pass and beat them doing just that. Yes we will make a concerted effort to run but we will continue to chuck the rock about the yard if that is what it takes. Teams want to keep daring us to pass we will call their bluffs
Jones still isn't throwing in practice. Is that same problem Brock had during rookie season right before Thursday night game in SEA he barely ended up starting?
Go 49ers
I really hope that Chase Lucas and Trevis Gipson have more opportunities to play against the Bucs. The flashed so well during preseason that I'm really curious to see how they would do with ore snaps on gameday. Gipson was able to fall on a fumble against LA and Lucas was pivotal in that 4th down stop, hopefully that will earn them a bit more time.

Gipson should get some snaps at end, especially with YGM out

With Brock, that was a broken rib, with Mac, oblique
A bit scary that Mac still isn't throwing in practice. But I know he will try to play on Sunday, at least he will start the game.

Well yeah, different injuries but same area. It sounds like McCorkle is genuinely in doubt for this game. If they have to start Martinez I'll just think of it as a Mulligan without the actual do-over.
Well if Martinez plays it's gonna be back to the RG3 days for Kyle

If he was actually gonna play they would have signed another QB who could be the backup.

Not necessarily. The way they're talking, it seems like Jones would be available to back-up in case of an emergency, even if his knee wasn't good enough to risk going through a whole game. Besides, the only two QBs they could possibly bring in at this point that would do them any good are Mordecai and Bradley, and why would they want to release somebody else just to make room for either of those guys for one game.
