Afraid you're right
It's going to be a tough game that comes down to our defense containing the little guy. Our oline is depleted from injuries and we don't have JJ, or kittle. Defense has to keep the cards under 20 for us to win this one. Staying clear of penalties will be critical.
I'm sure there will be some complaints about the heat since it's supposed to be in the 80s.

Now that Brock is out, the line could have still moved to the Cards being 1.5 favorites. But it is at 49ers minus 2.5, only 1/2 point lower than when people thought Brock would be starting.

Also, prior to the season starting, Vegas had us favored 3.5 points for this game. So with Mac now starting, we are still favored 2.5 points, which does not really show a difference between Mac and Brock.

So you think that magickly somehow, Vegas could have known before the season started that Kittle and JJ would likely be out for this game as well as our O-Line being very injured? Come on....Purdy is definitely a part of the spread movement but there are other players involved in the spread too. Players injured on both teams. I think you are over-simplifying this by only focusing on Purdy versus Mack and ignoring anything else that could affect the spread.

Why would you be afraid of a win?
The line before the season started had 49ers minus 3.5. Now it's at 49ers minus 2.5. This is not too bad with us having Brock, Kittle and JJ out as well as a depleted OL. AZ has some injuries too.

I think 49ers take this game at home and go 3-0.
But if you tried to reframe our injuries by staying positive you could make the following case:

There is a possibility Mac is just as good as Brock.
Bourne can be just as effective as JJ.
We can find a decent replacement for Colby who will play just as good.

I'm very "glass is half full" so your "remaining positive" comment seems to be an attempt at a distraction, or you are not understanding the point i was trying to make. I always root for a 49ers win.....we play the best healthy players we have available and do our best every game.

My point was, and still is, that you focusing on just the comparison of Brock and Mac as the only factor that affects the spread while ignoring everything else that can affect the spread is not correct.

You wrote: "So with Mac now starting, we are still favored 2.5 points, which does not really show a difference between Mac and Brock."

Sure, if that was the only thing that changed, than you would have a valid point, but other factors affect the spread change, so your conclusion is not correct in isolating just one reason for the change and ignoring all the others on both teams. I'm not down on Jones at all...we are lucky to have an experienced back-up QB....I'm merely pointing out that your conclusion is not factoring is other variables, that's all.

Go Niners....I want 3-0 also.

Not sure if licking their chops is the right term. I've never seen a 49er put a solid hit on Kyler... you can't get a hold of him.

Murray barely ever takes hits. This is the only time I recall

I anticipate a big game for Pearsall/CMC. Mac is going to rely on them, big time, as he should.

if we can build an early lead, our NASCAR lineup would be fun to watch, but defense is mostly going to be just containing Kyler.

remember that game against Philly where we blew them out? But our d line was careful to over rush and open lanes? That's what I anticipate us doing but with more speed.

I expect to see more "big nickel" too. Brown will get a lot of playing time.

I think we win 31-23

Brocks mobility is going to be missed but I really hope Mac can build on last week. I just hope he doesn't turn the ball over and can take advantage of their ravaged secondary.
