tweet's misleading if you listen to the actual context of the conversation. TK and MB were talking about the franchise tag number being $6M. Pineiro is not asking for that money.

I think it's just an opinion based on an unknown asking price.

Safe to assume he's going to want a pay bump after last season.

The number isn't important. It's around what the top kickers made in 2025. He's just saying he doesn't think they want to pay a lot for him because they can find cheap replacements in free agency if necessary.

Like Kawakami mentioned, he doesn't think they'd want to pay 4m. They aren't going to have their hand forced when replacements are a dime a dozen and he's not going to have interest at big money on the open market.

Not willing to spend >5$ mill on a kicker who was damn near flawless but willing to give 3 years $20mill to a backup TE who's specialty is blocking; but wasn't so special at it.

Find cheap replacements and dime a dozen kickers huh? Too bad they wasn't thinking that way when they decided to burn a 3rd round pick on a kicker

It all makes perfect sense

These are my thoughts, don't cheap out on a kicker sure might be more than he deserves for 1 good year but in the bigger pictures that extra million or so a year is worth it. I'd like to see a 2 year deal if he does good again extend him if he starts to be meh cut him next offseason

They commented on the 3rd round pick as well. It wasn't a proper use of a valuable draft asset.

We don't know what Eddie actually wants or what his value would be on the open market. They're just speculating they don't want to pay big money for a kicker. The might not have to and they may end up re-signing him at a nice pay increase. There's definitely no rush.

If it makes you feel better I bet they get out of that backup TE deal too. End up being 1 year for 6 million I believe.

I agree. Make it make sense and I've always been in the camp that you don't have to give "elite" cash to kickers or use a pick. Meet in the middle.

They currently need TEs so I don't necessarily think he will be cut.

They need TEs with a pulse.

I cant believe we can sign him for 4m and there's friction about it? Eddy's performance last year was not a blip. He is historically very accurate. In shannys offense accurate kicker is indispensible. Come on. Get bosa and williams to kick in a few mil. We can get to the promised land with eddie and mac.

You don't know what he's asking for, what the 49ers might be offering, and what he might be offered if he were to test the market.

For example, why sign him for 4m plus if you can sign him for 3?

They're definitely not going to negotiate based on fan impatience, lol.
I need to find the reference but someone suggested he might go back to the Bears. That would suck but the Niners will do what is best for the organization and they should. I'd like to see them keep him around.
