What is your SF 2025 draft grade?

On here its more of a measure of how different were the picks from the ones posters wanted.

PFF had Daniels at 21 so Commanders got a big red line for taking him at 2. Bo Nix? Massive red line. PFF had James Worthy at 69. No good from the Chiefs there.

Exact same for us last year. Renardo Green was 80, we took him 64. Puni was 104, we took him at 86. Mustapha was 148, we took him 124. All red lines and bad grades.
PFF is terrible at this. Looking at where they have players is not reasonable and there isn't much doubt in my mind that the picks we had would have been gone. They also had a safety in the top 10 and ward at 20. Sigle and especially Martin as UDFA?
Same as every year at this time:

TBD
I don't give grades, but I think there is a lot to like about this draft, in fact, just based on need and potential, it may be one of the best overall drafts the team has had since Lynch and Shanahan got here. There may not be a Fred warner or George Kittle in the picks, but for sheer depth it looks pretty intriguing. If even half of these guys live up to their promise or end up being solid contributors, it could set the team's defensive foundation for the next five years.

I see PFF gave their draft a "D". I swear, those guys are all such tools. A bunch football fanboys who probably weren't actually good enough to play the game themselves, so they created an analytic profile that they were able to convince the NFL it needed. I've seen a few of their postgame podcasts and all I can ever do is roll my eyes at how full of themselves they are.

The ravens and the eagles are the two teams with some historically great drafts. There is a reason for this. In both of these organizations the general manager holds the power over the head coach. They are not looking for players to fit a scheme. They are selecting the best players available and then creating a scheme for their unique skill sets. If the current OC or DC can't do that, they move on. Both Nick Sirianni and John Harbaugh are smart for not being play callers. That way the organization doesn't have to move on from them and can move on from the OC or DC that cannot create a scheme to fit the players that the gm decides to draft.
It is a completely opposite strategy for the 49ers. Kyle Shanahan and the DC hold a lot of power when it comes to selecting players that fit their scheme. They are less willing to change their scheme to fit better players. The organization goes along with it because of how much respect kyle has around the league for being a creative offensive "genius". Hopefully it works out for the 49ers. I really like their draft but this is why they reached on some players and teams like eagles and ravens are less willing to.

I recognize this post, lol.

I tend to agree with your overarching point, but I think you are mistaken in why things are set up the way they are. It's not because Kyle is an offensive 'genius'.

For a lot of these public big boards, the grading is limited to just tape, pro-days, the combine, and rumors. The 49ers regularly "reach" for guys because they consider things like scheme (prototypes), medicals, interviews, investigations, in addition to tape, pro-days, and the combine.

Arif Hasan puts together a Consensus Big Board Ranks (CBB Rank) each year for like a decade now. This was the first year to provide ranks beyond 300 players for drafted players, so some players in previous drafts are unranked (UR) for being outside the 300. It is tough to evaluate a draft. So many comparisons to consensus draft rankings and all that. I mean, it is all most of us have to use as just fans, but let's be honest, all that is bullcrap.
We got a steal with Guard Connor Colby! pshhhh and they say we don't improve the oline at all.

I don't agree with the Eagles and Ravens changing their schemes to fit their players. Can you provide some examples? They do a better job at drafting BPA that's true but at the same time they also take more chances on player's with character concerns. I think the 49ers are high on character and will take those players off the board.

Yeah, I don't agree with the commentary on the Eagles and Ravens changing their schemes. A team without a scheme is a team without a plan. The character issue is a very good point. The niners have learned some hard lessons over the years on that front - almost every time coming back to haunt the team.
This is a complicated question. 1) What needs did they fill? 2) What did they skip or miss?

Overall grade = C.

1) What needs did they fill?

If they draft was to fill out the front 7 on defense with some good young players plus add some speed at WR and S they did really well. If you just rated defensive front 7, speed at S, speed at WR, return man I would give them a B+.

1st - 11 overall - Mykel Williams - DE - 6'5" 260 lbs. - Georgia - 34 3/8 arms - 4.77 40 yard dash. Big, long, tall, strong guy who can set the edge and be a run stopper. Not inherently great pass rusher. A boom or bust pick. But he can stop the run and play multiple positions. He's a day 1 starter.

2 - 43 overall - Alfred Collins - DT - 6'6" 332 lbs. - Texas - 34 5/8 arms - 5.09 40 yard dash. Huge, tall, long, bulky, powerful gap plugger and space eater. This is a great pick. A huge 49ers need and love his size and length. No slouch of an athlete either for his size.

3 - 75 overall - Nick Martin - LB - 5'11-1/2" 221 lbs. - Oklahoma State - 4.53 40 yard dash. Look at his PRIOR year stats. They year before when he wasn't injured. He's a tackling machine. All over the field making plays. He's very fast. Timed speed is excellent and if anything he plays faster. Love this pick.

3 - 100 overall - Upton Stout - CB - 5'8-1/2" 181 lbs. - Western Kentucky - 4.44 40 yard dash. If they goal was a speedy, quick, change of direction CB who can cover the slot I can sort of understand it. I don't like 5'8" and barely 180 lbs. soaking wet. Not sure how that holds up in the NFL. I'm skeptical about this pick because of height and weight. But I take a wait and see approach. For a certain defined and specific role maybe.

4 - 113 overall - CJ West - DT - 6'1" 316 lbs. - Indiana - 4.95 40 yard dash (outstanding). This guy is an absolute bull if you ever watched him. IMO he plays bigger and more powerful than his size. He's quick, athletic, active, fast, powerful. He's very productive too. Great pick and especially where we got him.

4 - 138 overall - Jordan Watkins - WR - 5'11" 196 lbs. - Ole Miss - 4.37 40 yard dash. We didn't really need a WR and we pick too many of them. But this guy was reasonably productive and he's a fast deep threat. So the pick is ok here. Just would have preferred other positions. He may be a nice addition for us though.

5 - 147 overall - Jordan James - RB - 5'9-1/2" 205 lbs. - Oregon - 4.55 40 yard dash. Shany burns through about 5 RB's per year pounding away with them. So this team NEVER has enough RB's. He was reasonably productive and is a decent enough athlete. I'm fine with the pick.

5 - 160 overall - Marques Sigle - S - 5'11" 199 lbs. - Kansas State - 4.37 40 yard dash. I like that we added a speedy Safety. Something we need a lot more of at this position. He was productive and a good player in College. I like this pick and think it has a lot of upside.

7 - 227 overall - Kurtis Rourke - QB - 6'4" 220 lbs. - Indiana. I like this pick as much as the WZ hates it. He's big and tall with length. He was a dart thrower sometimes in College if you watched him. He can throw a really accurate, pretty ball. You never have enough guys like that. My understanding is he would go a lot higher. The knee injury concerns caused him to slide in the draft. So you get a developmental tall guy who can throw with accuracy who can heal and get well and learn for a year.

7 - 249 overall - Connor Colby - OG - 6'6" 309 lbs. - Iowa - 5.11 40 yard dash. First I will say I'm glad we picked offensive line. But I absolutely can't believe we waited until 2nd last pick in the 7th round to do it. Too little and too late. But I do like his position versatility. He has shorter arms but tall height and stature. A decent athlete who can play more than one position. It's a good pick where we got him.

7 - 252 overall - Junior Bergen - WR - 5'9" 184 lbs. = Montana - 4.52 40 yard dash. Picked to be a return man and has lots of experience. He's a good enough athlete but maybe not a great one. A little undersized. For where he was picked and what we are trying to do the pick is fine. I won't complain about it.

2) What did they skip or miss?

Offensive line is what they missed. I can't believe you can watch this team the last several years and this last season. Then think the offensive line doesn't need anything. This is not a serious team if you don't address the offensive line. Waiting until the 2nd last pick in the 7th round is not acceptable. If you watch the line play. I do like that pick and his versatility. We need a lot more on the offensive line but continually ignore it. We picked 1 offensive linemen. The Eagles have a stacked offensive line and picked multiple offensive linemen. Look up their draft. So that's what went wrong.

If I rated ignoring the offensive line itself it's a D-. But overall I say C. With the chance to go higher. Some boom or bust players are Williams and Sigle. If they boom this draft goes higher. Maybe up to the B overall range.
