What is your SF 2025 draft grade?

F+ doesn't sound like trying at all lol. I don't think it was that bad but it was disappointing..but kinda expected? :/
C. Addressed run d and needed a backer and a db so good there . I would have went elsewhere on the rb wr and QB picks .
B

That's two good drafts (back to back years)... excited about that.

I would've given an A had they drafted at least one OT or center before the 7th rd. The first 3 picks plus CJ West and Sigle were solid!

I think draft grades are meaningless at this point...we really won't know how the draftees will perform on the field for awhile yet. Overall, I liked what Lynch & Shanahan did. They gave Saleh some very good talent to work with. I think WR Watkins is a fine addition...he can play the slot and outside positions. I like the RB James...did you know Frank Gore gave his selection two thumbs up? Well, he did. With Mustafa's ACL, S Sigle seems like a good addition. Like Watkins, he brings 4.37 speed. I like the QB pick Rourke...tough guy with a lot of moxie. 29 TD's and just 5 picks playing on a partially torn ACL. Colby's a 4-yr starting OG from Iowa...it won't surprise me if he ends up starting at LG. The UDFA's have some promise, as well. OL Moss from CO St can play. The WR from Nebraska's got considerable talent. Unfortunately for him, Nebraska doesn't throw the ball a lot.

Started out higher but then i listened to the shanalynch presser and learned that Lynch tried to trade up for Mykel. This mentality where he decides the 5 guys he wants the most and then overdrafts them by sometimes several rounds to make sure he gets them is just poor strategy. Even your best picks are going to bust like half the time. The next best fit in all reality probably has similar odds. The first two picks were solid at positions of desperate need and in general i love the common theme of grabbing tough players that fit our identity, can contribute to stopping the run and no knuckleheads. But like every draft i feel like we could have got the same first five or six guys plus an additional player of similar ilk by just exercising some patience and recognizing that it's really unlikely another team will overdraft an undersized player.

The + is for showing up.

I give them this grade every year in jest, BTW.

Every team does it. It's not overdrafting just because a player is smaller than other players at their position.

100% agree
I'd give it a B+. These last 2 drafts I think have been there best. Also a quick thought on how we draft as a team.
The ravens and the eagles are the two teams with some historically great drafts. There is a reason for this. In both of these organizations the general manager holds the power over the head coach. They are not looking for players to fit a scheme. They are selecting the best players available and then creating a scheme for their unique skill sets. If the current OC or DC can't do that, they move on. Both Nick Sirianni and John Harbaugh are smart for not being play callers. That way the organization doesn't have to move on from them and can move on from the OC or DC that cannot create a scheme to fit the players that the gm decides to draft.
It is a completely opposite strategy for the 49ers. Kyle Shanahan and the DC hold a lot of power when it comes to selecting players that fit their scheme. They are less willing to change their scheme to fit better players. The organization goes along with it because of how much respect kyle has around the league for being a creative offensive "genius". Hopefully it works out for the 49ers. I really like their draft but this is why they reached on some players and teams like eagles and ravens are less willing to.

Grade our draft and discuss..

A PLUS. I also wanted a bad*ss offensive lineman. But it wasn't a critical need like the defense was. Drafting a bad*ss tackle still would have required Brock to produce 4-5 TD's every game because the defense could not be relied upon to hold a lead. Requiring Brock to score 17-points or less keeps him safer than a bad*ss offensive tackle would.

seems like you guys put a lot of weight on our late round picks. Does the first 5 picks not hold more weight than the bottom 5?

I don't agree with the Eagles and Ravens changing their schemes to fit their players. Can you provide some examples? They do a better job at drafting BPA that's true but at the same time they also take more chances on player's with character concerns. I think the 49ers are high on character and will take those players off the board.

That's a great and interesting take
