Agreed. Hopefully when we get more offensive guys like Kittle, Pearsall & Jennings back the defense won't be able to stack the box & blitz so much which should in turn help out run blocking with lighter boxes up front
It doesn't help that he plays next to one of the worst centers on the league
Colby seems to be making a lot of mental errors. Which then affects both TW and Brendel. Which is unusual for a 9ers coached OL. I would understand if he was just losing the physical battle as a rookie, but the assignment misses have been really tough.

And wow, I don't get the 9ers - they put all their eggs in the Ben Bartch basket? even tho he is know to be injury prone. He was injured all training camp right? How did they have any expectation he would last as a FT starter?

Has their ever been an in-season trade for a guard? lol

Maybe they should try the other rookie?

This. 100%
I'm not defending him but to be honest we are getting a good return on a 7th round pick. What % of 7th round picks make starts in their rookie years? I'm assuming it's extremely low. He hasn't been great, but certainly has been better than his 7th round status and has been better than some guards drafted higher.

Doesn't make it easier during the games but have to remember who he is and that he was thrust into this spot as a rookie. Not easy

Bartch had a cup of coffee in the NFL with 22 starts over5 yrs.and is injury prone and some how he is our saviour at LG.

This is the philosophy of the 49ers. Why are we surprised that we have a 7th rookie at LG.
Foerster is supposed to be a really good O line coach. If that's true why can't he get these guys to block better? I know the Niners haven't been drafting O linemen in the early rounds but a really good coach should be able to get a better performance out of these guys.

Fans complain all the time on this forum about the special teams coach and the training staff. They complain about Kyle's play calling. Why is Foerster getting a pass? Bobb McKittrick always had the O line playing well even when players were injured. Harris Barton and Bubba Paris were both #1 picks but they were drafted 5 years apart. The rest of the O line were 4th rounders of later.

He definitely shouldn't be. Along with poor center play for several seasons, there's no attempt to replace Brendel.

well to be far....it seems pointless to load up hate on the dude when Mr. I'll sit out and hold the team Hostage for money I'm not worth is over at left tackle getting the tar beat out of him on the regular.

Anyone that is willing to give Williams time to play himself into shape, should be willing to give a rookie guard time to adapt to the NFL too
They need to go Full Metal Jacket on Foerster and Brendel, giving each the soap party treatment BOFUM

I was listening to JohnnyDel and he was talking about how bad Colby has been. That a lot of the hit's he is taking is from Colby. It's a lot of mental errors.

I hope Bartch is back this week for tampa. We need to get Colby back to the bench so he can rest and try to learn from his mistakes before he gets Mac killed.
