I think you guys are going overboard with the Bartch hate. Let's not forget Bartch looked great last year when he filled in for a game or two which is essentially what Colby just did. Lets also not forget the Saints dline is horrible outside Cam Jordan.

This guy just looked like he belongs and made an instant impact. guys like Bartch/Brendel just looks like they're limping around out there and no juice. It's nice to see guys like Colby and Puni bringing that youth and energy to the O line. The line looked way better once He came in.
Just a guess that it's a philosophical difference by round, and I think it is changing.
In the first couple rounds at least they are looking for players who are physically capable of being game changers with some history of doing it in college. After that there are moving targets where they lower their physical standards for performers, or are more willing to accept more past performance information in exchange for special athletes.
In other words ... they want college stars who are easily projected to the NFL in the first couple rounds, after that they accept more compromises.
Another factor is later rounds rely more on regional scouts to find diamonds in the rough while the first couple rounds are basically all known players.
I think Kyle may have been pushed back from his level of input too ... I think he's directly to blame for some of the bigger flameouts.

Coaches need to trust the scouts.

I'd agree with most of what you're saying. I do think Kyle and/or Lynch are much more involved in the first few rounds. Whereas they rely on the scouts for the later rounds. Let the scouts do their job.
I'd be really curious to know if they did anything different this draft, than past drafts, cause this draft seems to be a freakin homerun. Still need to see a lot more but the fact we have a handful of rookies already contributing, with guys like Nick Martin still developing, is extremely impressive.
Only pick that I didn't really care for was the last pick, the WR Bergen. Guys like Colby, Upton, Williams, James, West, Collins, Watkins, Sigle seem like positive improvements.
If this draft turns out to be as impactful as we anticipate - that is the kind of draft that solidifies your next 5+ years. Just off of one draft.
I love how colby has started a TON of games in college, I think it's something like 50. Especially at a school like Iowa. Those boys always seem to be solid NFL players.

There are a few things that make this draft different. The roster was kind of gutted so they had to get starters in the draft. The kind of players they were going for was clearly shaped directly by Saleh early and often. James and Watkins perfectly fit the mold of the kind of players Kyle is always drafting ... good one cut college backs with questions on their games translating, and fast 2nd tier WRs who might be soft ... but at least they were not picking in the first 3 rounds this time.
Bergen just screams a Boyer pick. My guess is they don't get him as a coach without offering him some impact on the shape of the roster. But again ... at least it wasn't in the first 3 rounds :)

49er fans need to face reality. Williams is going to be really hard to replace. He's one of the best tackles in the last 10 years and replacing him with a drasdft pick when you pick late in the round is going to be nearly impossible unless you just get lucky. Remember we lucked out when Washington traded him because they were concerned about his injuries.
In 2023 he did stints from across the line i have never seen before. He scared the crap out of a Safety on the Jags which was hilarious. He ran away which was a smart career move.

We hope. One game sure as hell doesn't make a career.

Yeah I feel later round picks should just be guys that played a lot of snaps in college; with the limited training camp and preseason anymore, I feel like more college games is just going to help them be a solid backup at the very least.

I refuse to watch anything that guy puts out. The sensationalized clickbait titles and thumbnails are so cringe.

Right? His "the league made a big mistake letting the 49ers get this guy" or "Kyle's secret weapon" make me assume those players will be cut or be complete busts

There are occasionally guys who were amazing athletes who don't have the college experience who make it in the NFL from the late rounds too. UDFA and practice squads are huge for finding time to teach them how to play the game ... but it's so far from how much time they used to get it's a shame.

+1, and the way he calls the team the Furtyniners doesn't help.
