Saw CJ play several games last season...this guy's a baller, loves to play physically. I think he and Collins can become quite a duo, with Alfred's mammoth size and CJ's ability to play low and blow people up. I really like how they approached the DL this draft. Call him D.J. Jones-ish or whatever, he's an excellent addition who should become a fan favorite.

CJ West - Indiana - 49ers - 6'1-1/8" 316 lbs - 4.95 40 yard dash - 28 reps bench.
DJ Jones - Ole Miss - Broncos - 6'0-5/8" 319 lbs - 5.04 40 yard dash - 28 reps bench.

DJ did not and never has run in the 4.9's. Very fast for this size. Actually a little taller and faster and more explosive. Also the more active player coming out. He was awesome if you ever watched him at Indiana. CJ West that is.

This guy doesn't equal that guy just because you want a comparison. Each player is an individual. CJ is more athletic. DJ was 6th round. CJ was 4th round.

lol so a 40 yard dash for a DT means what? Also you're acting like there's a massive difference between a 4.95 and 5.04? Their 10 yard split was damn near identical. Stop it.

I'm not comparing anyone. Acting like West is vastly more athletic than Jones is simply not true. Their film backs up that both are plus athletes for their size.

comparing draft position means absolutely nothing when we're talking about athletic ability and measurables.

I really like the west selection. I didn't know much about him before we took him but now that I've watched some film - dude seems quick and explosive for how big of a dude he is.

I love his attitude too. Bring that nastiness back to our d line, specifically the interior. I hope he gives us what we had in jones, would be sweet. We've def missed it

He was my only pick I got right in my mock lol. We toss out NFL player comps so folks can see what his ability is. Very much a Jones like talent. That's a good thing.

I had Nolen at 11, but it was between him and Williams (thought Williams would have been gone). Loved Harmon as well (injury scared me).

For me West and Collins are a little redundant. I wasn't a massive Collins guy. I need you to have some sort of pass rush ability if I'm taking a DT in the top 50…unlike Williams I just didn't see the explosiveness. Hoping I'm wrong and he can turn into a true 3 down 3-tech.

for me in this draft I wanted a DE (maybe 2), a run stuffing stud and a one gap penetrator DT. I wish they would have kept Collins, if this was the route they were gonna go

I guess Lynch didn't consult you.

Guess he didn't

but I'm sure you love every single move he's done since he got here….unblemished record, right?
Saw some Indiana games last year...West and Mikail Kamara on the DL were wreaking havoc throughout! They were tough for OLs to deal with. Kamara was the sack guy on the end but in the middle, West looked quick and was making plays all over and helping control the LS.

Those two along with guys like their QB Rourke were a big reason they were 10-0 before losing to Ohio State 38-15. Their only other loss was in the 1st Round of the playoffs to Notre Dame, 27-17.

Side note: Thought Rourke looked good with his ability to get the ball out on time, deliver accurate passes for the most part, and just hang tough in the pocket in helping lead their offense. Didn't know he was playing with a torn ACL and fractured thumb on his throwing hand last year.

The more FAST, ATHLETIC, EXPLOSIVE guy = CJ West.

CJ West - 4.95 40 yard dash - 1.73 10 yard spit - 33 inch vertical.

DJ Jones - 5.04 40 yard dash - 1.76 10 yard split - 28.5 inch vertical.

In everything that measures explosiveness, quickness and speed CJ West is better. Player A is not the same as player B just because they both have 2 initials. They are different. CJ West is the better more explosive athlete getting up the field quickly. 1 inch taller and he goes higher. 2 inches taller he goes in the top 2 rounds. He's really a great player. Almost dominant sometimes if you watched him at Indiana.

Hahaha, you think the differences in those measurables leads to him being more athletic? Dude those are legit the same numbers. You're talking tenth of a sec s**t. Massive reach to proclaim anything. Next you're gonna tell me Jordan Watkins is more athletic than OBJ because he ran a 4.37 and OBJ ran a 4.43

I mean, I might as well toss out that Jones over 5lbs heavier, if we're gonna factor in such a small difference in measurables.

derp I watched him. I had him in my mock all the same. He is not overwhelmingly more athletic than Jones is, which is my point.

The numbers are NOT the same. He's more athletic in the 40, 10 yard split and vertical jump. Significantly so in the 40 and vertical jump. The more athletic and explosive guy is CJ West. Those are significant differences. DJ is not running 4.9's. Almost 5 more inches in the vertical is a lot for a 300+ pound guy. That's a big difference.

Dude you're splitting hairs to prove a point. You're disregarding weight in any of this. 4.95 vs 5.04 is not a substantial difference to preclude anything.

So Watkins is a better athlete because his 40 time of 4.37 vs OBJ 40 time or 4.43? Their film doesn't show a substantial difference in athletic ability at all. Stop it

Almost 5 inches better in the vertical might as well be 10 inches for a lighter guy at a different position. At 316 lbs. that's a HUGE difference. As is the 4.95 compared to 5.04. Significantly better speed. The explosiveness is better with CJ West.

Pretty much my thinking as well. I was looking for a 3-tech, but I guess they wanted to have a few young man-walls to manage Saleh's preferred regular line rotation system. I expect we'll see Collins, West, and Anderson playing along side Williams, Elliot, and Davis on the interior when they want to get a little more pursuit on the field. The issue of course is the DE position when Williams is on the field playing inside. YGM, Beal, Givens, Garvin, Okuayinonu ... not all that inspiring.

I'll never understand sports fans who seem to love being angry about their team ... do you get joy when they win a game or do you only see the failures?

And yet he didn't do the Broad jump? Jones was 108" which is damn good for a 320 DT. No that most certainly is not a significantly better speed lol and if there's a metric that means little for a DT it's a 40 yard dash.
