I like Stout, but the lack of size definitely showed up at times last year in the run defense. The 3rd and 17 crack cross vs Seattle was a rough one for him. Poor guy was getting ragdolled across the field despite fighting his ass off.

Maybe even if Hobbs doesn't beat him outright for the starting slot he can be an option vs certain personnel or schemes. He seemed a good run defender , from the highlights I watched anyway lol

Also, he's not catching a taller WR with speed... we seen it in clips and I bet he couldn't keep stride with Stribling or Kirk once they get a step on him. I like his tenacity, attitude and work ethic, but this dude could just be a tougher (1 inch taller) Mark McMillan

He also had some really nice plays in the running game.

Man, you f**king love to see this. Communication is the most underrated aspect of football. Upton clearly spots a tell from film study and relays it to Nick. Awesome, awesome stuff. Bringing back some Jimmie Ward vibes here, who was an elite communicator.

Agree, that pre-snap recognition was almost like a designed run blitz. I wish he was 20+ heavier - he'd be really something comming up to hit the running back and still be able to drop back into pas coverage. I'm pretty sure he'll have as many sacks this season as some designated pass rushers!
Stud.

Love the effort.
Stout playing his ass off...do wish he didn't cheat in garbage time but that's just cosmetic stuff. If his brain farts happen when we're up by 4+ TDs we're in good shape.

That was so impressive. I don't think I remember the last time I've seen a corner do that. I'm not talking a 49er corner. I'm talking about a corner in general.
