Just so quick, fast, instinctive, aggressive, hit harder than the size. All the stuff you see some of the guys do. For some the size doesn't matter as much. Hope that's the case for him.

Don't need the size as much in the slot though. Real excited to see this guy in action because everyone seems to be raving about him. Seems like more hype around him right now than anyone else in our draft class.
Have we found our next k'waun?

I mean they are two completely different player types

watching Verrett move laterally is CB pr0n. If I had to choose one DB over the last 25 years to show to someone in terms of how CB hips should turn when covering, it will be Jason no doubt. Not Revis, not anyone else.

Upton is a scrappy little son of a gun who reminds me of Mathieu and Kwaun combo and not just cuz of size. He will win by being sticky, a lot of hand-fighting, and a lot of strength and hitting/tackling, which is the opposite of what Verrett was.
Hell I think he's closer to Lenoir than Verrett. I still think Lenoir at the end of his career could very well transition to safety.

Verrett could easily start outside, I dont think Stout would be able to consistently do so. His future is in the slot.

That's probably true. Quickness, coverage skills, ball skills and super aggressive is what you need for that. He seems to have all of those. So we need that and I hope he helps us with that.

That smaller corner in the slot is what lead to teams putting bigger more physical receivers in the slot ... Like JJ. Where they don't need to get space and get open, they just need to win an 8 yard cage match. Downfield QBs will look at a read, there's a corner close, next read ... but some slot routes the pass is a shorter distance, it's quicker, and the receiver just needs to out fight the DB even if he's right there. In that case, 5 inches of height difference matters more (Jennings is 6'3", Stout is 5'8").

Kwaun was 5'9 and it didnt hinder him too much in terms of WRs winning with size against him. A lot of teams that pass a lot, do value that slot WRs will get a free release more than they value a bigger WR there so they typically put faster and more agile but smaller guys there.

I would say out of big WRs, only Lamb ran a huge number of snaps from the slot WR and hes not even that big. Pause. And Dallas didnt give Kwaun too many problems when Cee Dee lined up in the slot against him (in the years past, obviously not last year or whatever lol)

Ricky will run from the slot this year a lot for us, I think JJ if he plays will play a lot outside this year. Before a lot of time hed block from the slot, which made him valuable.

And Stout is more physical than Kwaun. The slot is used to scheme a lot ... it's always a game. The 49ers can respond by putting Demo in the slot to cover if a bigger WR is giving Stout a problem.

I appreciate the game out there but my feet were not made for playing outside the hash marks :)

In 1 on 1s I believe. I don't recall hearing him getting beaten much in team drills which is what we should be concerned with. 1on1s are very offense favorable.

Sometimes the guys who cause more trouble for top corners aren't even the big name guys. I just saw the other day how Richard Sherman spoke to the guy who absolutely gave him nightmares and you'd think it would be Julio Jones, Calvin Johnson, Fitzgerald type of player - it was Stevie Johnson and it was in a game Seattle won by like 3 TDs.
