I hope I'm wrong but I'm not holding my breath on this guy. It seems like dating back from the draft people are trying to talk themselves into liking him. It's only one measley preseason game, but I didn't like this pick when it happened and yesterday was just more evidence that he's got a lot to prove.

That's the beauty of hot takes either way. I don't believe our coaching staff blows smoke up peoples asses when they don't deserve praise. There has been a lot of good things said about Martin but clearly not in the level of "he's gonna be starting this year" type of deal.

You can see the speed and the talent. He's just not controlled enough right now or may not be comfortable in where he is in the defense. Some guys get it quick, some need time. It's not like it was all bad yesterday. Winters was hot and cold like that early on too. Sounds like it slowed down for him.

Hopefully it happens for Martin sooner rather than later.

O-line, Moody, Jimmy G?

I can respect it though, how does it help to trash one of their own players in the media?

I'm talking about young players who have nothing on tape in games that matter.

There is also a difference in coach speak and actual praise for rookies. Look at how Kyle addresses questions about Watkins. Media has been hyping him up but any chance Kyle gets he knocks him down a peg.
We need to pump the brakes on the criticism of this guy. Dre Greenlaw had the same kind of issues initially but he figured it out. Winters seems to have made a similar move. Martin now has a month to look at film and make corrections. He will get plenty of PT to show up. For now, he just seems to have too many positive attributes to set him aside now.
He just looked very mentally lost. It's all in his head. With more time and reading things correctly I think he can be better. He's in the wrong places at the wrong time. That's a young rookie sometimes. It's his first preseason game. The athleticism and speed actually showed. He did close a lot of ground really fast. So that's useful when he understands his role better. He will probably get better. I think people are too hard on him. He will be half a season in or 2nd year by the time he gets it better. Some guys are like that. It doesn't mean he can't play ever.
He looks dramatically better in the first half of preseason game 2. Made the athletic sack with speed. Then flying to the sideline to make a play showing the speed and athleticism again. Looks way less lost and showing up places. The athleticism actually showed in both games. Just he was mentally lost in preseason game 1. Mentally he looks better and is arriving where he needs to be on time.

Arrow up at least for now.

Cant see the game but this is good. Sounds like he was better today and flashed the athletic ability. Very good signs.

He looked a lot better in this game. He made tackles, sacks, showed speed and athleticism. Way less lost mentally. Much better IMO in preseason game #2.

He looked more decisive today he was over running plays . This kid is fast I say when he gets his feet firmly under him in this defense somebody will be out of the lineup.

Had a few negative plays, but overall much better outing today. He's so fast

This.

We knew all along he needed time to learn, and he needs the line to protect him ... he should look better with starters in front of him too. But he still has learning to do.

It's not that bad for a third round rookie honestly. He's faaaast seriously.
The kid had a decent game yesterday. It's hard for some of you to imagine but these rookies typically get better each week during training camp. Maybe not the best to judge them based of 1 preseason game

... or the first couple days of pad practice in camp.

Great points. Folks need to take a longer view with the team and these players.

With players like Nick Martin (and a lot of his draft classmates), the team/roster is moving in the right direction.

Same place that said Bowman sucked because he wiffed on a slow QB in space his rookie year.
