I like Martin. I just would love to know how SF evaluates the rest of the league and their big boards?

like do they feel he wouldn't be around on day 3 or do they just love him so much that they don't care about value?

If you really like a player, why take the risks that someone else might grab him before you? Tons of players are going higher than projected in mocks, so if you have a high grade on a kid, you don't worry about the rest and just select him. Plenty of teams draft boards look completely different from these mocks that are just guessing.

I mean they said they had a 3rd rd grade on Kittle and didn't take him until the 5th rd because they knew he was gonna be there.

I feel like they don't read the room right and have reached more than any team in the league for yrs.

who's a player that the consensus said was a reach that panned out for us?

I wonder if they take a lot or people off their draft board and that's the reason we see these players they pick go a rd early bc they players we think they would be interest in aren't even on their board.

Also when they meet with the player and "fall in love" with them they may move them up their board and that's something the media and us fans aren't privy too. Kind of like the medicals.

There are a lot of reaches during the draft from all teams but yeah we do seem like we reach more than others.

They draft for need and could care less about BPA.

I like both Martin and Stout but there were much better players available and if these two weren't available in the 4th there were plenty of LBers and undersized fiesty corners available.

This regime doesn't learn. They are horrible at the draft aside from a few late round gems.

I want Philly or Baltimore's whole staff.

Lynch was a tv guy, never a scouting guy. He needs to move team president so we can get an actual GM with draft knowledge.

There are always dudes that are graded higher that fill needs all the same. It's not like Collins/Martin/stout were the "only" DT/LBer/CB that were available yesterday.

People still called it a reach, especially since we also traded up to select him. Go reread that draft thread where people were whining and repeatedly posting tweets showing mocks and draft boards with him outside of the top 30 prospects. They did the same thing with Ricky last year.

Who cares where someone else has a player on their draft board? It's not like GMs have access to each other's boards, so you can't take the chance that a player will drop to you just because silly mocks didn't have him higher. I don't understand why people are so addicted to mock drafts and big boards, when front office execs don't pay any attention to them.

I mean I feel like character matters a ton, I would assume that's the same for a lot of teams.

there are a lot of reaches for sure…the data shows we reach more than any team in football though

its because of scheme
When it comes to round 3+ you are picking players that fit your scheme more so they may be lower than the consensus or they might be players that arent on our board at all because they dont fit our scheme but others have as round 2 or 3 talent
