This thread is such a rollercoaster, one day here it's a great pick, next day he's not good, next day he looks promising lmfao

I think it's more "yeah, he's looked bad but he has potential to be great, give him time" vs "he's terrible and never going to amount to anything better than a late round pick"

Good call!
He was picked in round 2 not rounds 4-7
You sure?

The guy has been seeking tips on his diet from Nick Bosa. He appears to want to improve, so that much is a promising sign.

The fact the coaches all keep saying he's showing hard work, improvement and flashes , which you can see on tape, is a great sign . Would be nice if he can become a reliable contributor throughout the season. In reality I'd like to see him an immediate contributor in the run D, but he's finding his footing

I really believe that last injury he was recovering from, the fact that he missed OTAs and what not just set him back a little. He'll become the player that will help in the playoffs sooner or later..

It's a roller coaster because some people have certain expectations right away and don't want to wait for development from an early pick in a year we need young guys to produce big.
It's also a roller coaster cuz some fans don't really know what they're looking for so when it gets pointed out to them with clips their opinion is easily changed.
It's encouraging to hear what Saleh is saying about him. I don't think it's to blow smoke up our a$$. Hopefully we see rapid growth from the guy cuz we need him to be a hit but fans should taper their expectations.

Saleh is building him up and trying to install some confidence. Which is good I guess. He honestly doesn't look as terrible as the claims here on the WZ. But not great either. It's early and he's young. You have to remember he's a fat gap plugger and run clogger. It's not his role to make splash plays and he won't make that many of them. That said he looks a little slow and fat. Gets pushed around too much for his enormous size. I hope he improves. He may do that. Give it some time.

It's also a roller coaster because he hasn't played a down of meaningful NFL football.
We will see...

Correct which is why I keep asking people to just wait and see how the guy looks over the course of this season.

Yes, JJ and Purdy as well as T. Lance and Solomon Thomas are prime examples that expectations for rookies don't matter much.

This fatty was up to 356 lbs per internet reports. Now down to 319 with dieting. No wonder he was so fat, sluggish, slow, worn out and quitting on plays. He was hugely out of shape. Hopefully he gets in and stays in shape. That would explain a lot of the preseason. Why he looked so slow and worn out.
Offseason weight: A San Francisco Chronicle article from September 2, 2025, confirmed that Collins' weight "ballooned to 356 pounds" during the pre-draft process. He attributed the weight gain to eating on his numerous "30 visits" with teams.

SF Chronicle is pay access. This was just from the internet that they posted that in their article. So I don't have the article. Just somebody put that up about them and Collins.
I believe it comes up in Google AI if you search it. Alfred Collins, weight, SF Chronicle. Search it like that.
