f**k so this a league-wide issue and not just our issue.

What a complete mess. How can you have 30/32 unsigned in the 2nd round? Didn't they do this in the collective bargaining agreement? Season is here. These teams need to start making some decisions. Guarantee the contract yes or no. But you got to make decisions now. It's go time.

It's because the Browns screwed everything up by giving Schwesinger a fully guaranteed contract so now every 2nd round pick wants that.

Yep. The Browns and the Texans also gave Jayden Higgins a fully guaranteed contract.

Seems like the NFL or NFLPA could have nixed these contracts, but they didn't, so it appears a new precedent outside of the existing CBA framework is being set.
What happens if 49ers don't pay up, dude just sits all year??

Not the Browns, it was The Texans who did it first, then the Browns went along with it since the new precedent was set.

The bulwark at the moment is Seattle.

They didn't break any rules, there is no reason to nix them. It's just the next stumbling block in an endless list of contract negotiation under changing CBAs.

If the Seahawks sign their safety fully guaranteed then the next team is on the hot seat. We know the agents want to hold on forever because the first one who passes a contract that isn't fully guaranteed will be skewered by their competitors. And the teams don't want to keep the slide going because the owners will give them a hard time.

I don't think it's an issue with them paying up, all these draft picks are slotted to certain salary parameters. Some weird thing going on with the contract language for all the 2nd round picks.

The 43rd pick last year got 78% of his CBA set total contract amount guaranteed ... the agents want all 2nd round picks to be 100% guaranteed. The entire debate is about guaranteeing another $1-3M per player TOTAL for their contract. Not about PAYING them more, just about guaranteeing them more.

This isn't really a 49ers issue or a player issue ... it's owners vs agents and I doubt the 49ers/Collins move first.

If you want to be upset at someone may as well go with Seattle. They're the 3rd pick in the 2nd round so I'm sure everyone is waiting to see what they do with their safety.

They didn't break any rules but there was also 0 reason for Houston to give Higgins a fully guaranteed deal. They kind of screwed themselves in the process too since they have another 2nd round pick to sign. Cleveland has an even bigger issue on their hands now since their 2nd 2nd round pick was the 4th pick in the round and also just got himself popped for DV the other day.

Yep. But it's also entirely possible somewhere down the list someone breaks on either side too. If pick 50 signs partially guaranteed then 51 on probably sign in a day. We just want someone above 43 to be where the break happens :)

I think the Saints are in the toughest spot (maybe above the Seahawks) with their expected starting QB (Tyler Shough) sitting at pick 40. Pretty hard to get ready to start at QB when you are missing camp.
When they designed the system that slotted draft picks why didn't they include language that would address how much of the salary was guaranteed. Maybe they need to add that in the next agreement.

Maybe, but the agents were complaining about the first round picks already where they were fully guaranteed. The only way to get agents/players to accept it would be if the amounts went up significantly.
