It's just going to be a waiting game until the last day or two is my guess. And it's not on the 49ers or Collins really ... if a player above Collins signs a non fully guaranteed deal then there will be a bunch of deals reached behind them, but if, for instance the Seahawks give out a fully guaranteed deal to the 3rd pick of the 2nd then nothing really has changed.

Ideally the Seahawks sign Emmanwori to a non-fully-guaranteed deal tomorrow and the rest of them fall quickly.

Technically we can blame Seattle right now. They're the next team up in the 2nd round. Also New Orleans with Tyler Shough who was taken 3 picks ahead of Collins.

No doubt the 49ers and most of the other teams don't want to give guaranteed contracts to 2nd round picks like Cleveland and Houston did but someone gotta blink first.
I dont blame anyone. I just want it done so he can have the benefit of having the full training camp.

Hopefully he understands the opportunity he has and we get this done in time.
Sign the deal.

To be clear they have no issue with guarantees in the contracts, I keep seeing people get that wrong (not that you don't know this). The issue is that this CBA made first round picks get fully guaranteed deals mandatory ... it is not mandatory for 2nd round picks and because of that the teams want to hold out on some options. Last year all the 2nd round picks had guaranteed money, it was just that they used things like void years or player/team options on the last year and things like that.

This is ENTIRELY because of the agents ... and Houston (but less than the agents because they are why most haven't signed) for agreeing to it.

I wonder who will have the power going in to the next CBA ... my guess is the owners will gain some ground.

Yeah, it's second round picks tryna get first round pick benefits. I don't blame the players for it - it also isn't like the contract doesn't have guaranteed money, it's just not 100% guaranteed.

from the teams perspective, 90% of these guys in the second round will be busts and they don't want to be stuck salary cap wise if/when these guys aren't performing at their expectations.

but overall, this isn't really in Collins. A lot of dominos need to fall first - unless he just says eff it.

Yeah, I'm about to write something that I never thought I'd ever write......but " I'm actually supporting Seattle's position on this issue". Wow, that was hard to write.....lol
Hoping Seattle doesn't cave and all of the remaining 2nd rounders blink first .....once their 2nd rounder signs without fully guaranteed money, then they all will sign.

Just wish we didn't desperately need him this year. He definitely has some leverage on us and knows it.
Just an FYI Alfred Collins can participate in TC with a waiver that makes the 49ers not responsible if he gets hurt, that's how he practiced at rookie minicamp, but he'll sign before the season, again this is a first for 2nd rd picks under the new CBA, no 2nd rd pick has ever had a fully GTD deal, now the first 2 picks in the 2nd do, leaving 30 unsigned, we'll see who blinks first, but I'll bet Collins signs before Shemar Stewart does, he hasn't done anything with the team, wouldn't workout without a deal signed, wouldn't sign a waiver to participate.

Meh, no team uses a 2nd round pick and doesn't care. And they way you say that makes me think you think Collins is the issue when it's his agent and he probably barely knows what is going on. Also, the leverage is really limited since the amount of money in the deal has been known for a while now, it's just terms. No reasonably player is going to choose to miss rookie training camp for trivial differences in terms unless their agent is lying to them :)

Rookies report the week of July 14 right? Its going to be interesting leading into it. My guess is that Collins will sign it right before to report on time and be in camp under contract.
Worst Case Scenario is he doesn't sign then throws a fit all off season and season then we lose his rights and he re enters the draft.

Is this possible DRC?
I never heard of such. Or maybe I did and have since forgotten.
