Me too, quite excited about being able to push Mykel inside on passing downs as well, hoping that'll get him some good looks Vs Guards and on stunts
Hope he signs, gets healthy, and is able to make an impact for the organization in 2025 and beyond.

If the players want to make more money end the salary cap.

Terrible idea.

It also wouldn't get the players more money. If there is no cap SOME players would get more money, but most players would get less. Most cap rules end up getting twisted in some way. The NBA's "max contract" rules immediately meant a bunch of mid-grade players agents decided they "deserved" the max deal while the 6 or 7 guys who were worth more than the max couldn't get what they were worth. The NFL set the rookie contract system to get players to sign faster and pay the top few picks less and it worked but contracts are a lot more complex and teams are not allowed to work with players if they want to bet heavily on each other like they used to, and I think it's making player development harder.

I think a couple simple changes would make things better for teams and players. Add more protection to developmental players so teams are more willing and able to invest in their players. Make contracts after 5 years in the NFL only count 80% against the cap so teams could justify keeping veterans on the roster longer. Disallow void years.

I don't know if your suggestions would work but at least you're offering ideas. The league and the players union need to sit down and start working on possible changes to the current salary structure. The current system is out of whack and unsutainable in the long run.

I've suggested not counting QB salaries against the cap. QB is the most important position and teams only carry 3 on the roster. Usually just 2 are active on any given week. This would allow teams to sign and hopefully retain quality backups so if they lose their starter the whole season doesn't go down the tubes.

That doesn't work for me. That would promote rich teams wildly overpaying to keep a backup QB who could start on several teams. There has to be some limit, I just think the current system is warped unfortunately.

Of course, as far as Collins deal is concerned it's kind of all on Seattle right now since if they give a fully guaranteed deal it leans the rest of the 2nd round picks toward getting fully guaranteed deals too, but if Seattle doesn't give out a fully guaranteed deal then the rest of the picks probably sign basically instantly.

Eddie D showed us this.

Eddie only dealt with the cap for 3 years and they were certainly criticized for breaking it from day 1, but it wasn't for a backup QB.

If he stunts from DT, it's pretty much got to be with Bosa, cause doing it with Huff seems a bad idea. And actually Williams from the DE position stunting with West or Collins or Anderson makes some sense too since he's still under 270lbs.

Hopefully we'll see a return to form from the DL and defense with these new additions.

With a seasoned Saleh I can see this happening as early as mid season.
Tyler Shough is going to hold this whole thing up, he was only 3 spots ahead and looks like he won't sign without being guaranteed. It makes sense for him as he's very average and injury prone, but still going to make our deal harder with Collins. F'ing Texans have caused all of this by giving it to Higgins

Shough's contract being "the" sticking point might just be media speculation since there is no directly attributable quote to anyone involved. Realistically it's probably Shough's agent and not Shough himself because QBs "deserve" special treatment.

That said, if the Seahawks sign Nick to a regular deal a bunch of players will sign quickly.

agreed

additionally, i want the niners to keep drafting DL within the first 4 rounds. you can't ever have enough bodies to rotate into the DL. it's the formula for success

It also means they can pay the great DLs they get because they will have enough cheap depth to make up the roster.
