I thought about Wilfork but his size and using his arm length batting balls, John is definitely a better comparison believe he had a similar partner in crime for a yr but can't remember that's when I first started watching football

The new 49er DL is going to stuff the hell out of the run

I was hoping we could get Tyleik Williams but DET took him in the 1st

Collins is an absolute beast against the run but he offers less pass rush

Agree his pass rush isn't there but for a reason, he locks it down with his strength even against double teams fighting like hell not to let the gap open, on top of that he can block shed and collapse the lane if the rb dares to go through it. Then hes 6'6 and will jump and bat the ball down. Was having trouble finding a comparison. John Henderson is probably the best comp for sure

I've been saying this on Reddit and people seem to agree. I really think that he could be a John Henderson/Vita Vea clone in this scheme because he's learning from Saleh and Kocurek, who both have great track records with linemen. I really really like this kid and hope he reaches his ceiling with us because he's a fun player to watch.

Wilfork was 6'2" and really stout and bulky. This guy is just a shade less than 6'6" with extremely long arms. That's a different player. He can get his hands up and even bat down passes with his height and length. Wilfork was mostly a pure gap plugger and run stopper. He didn't have the height and long arms. So a different guy IMO.

Exactly, Wilfork was more like cowboy just pushed the pocket forward. Collins looks like he won't be pushed back and almost plays like a spy
Technically, every draftee is a bust until they hit the field prove otherwise. That is truth. What else is truth is that all the haters spewing the shortcomings and inabilities of these draftees couldn't GM their way out of an old wet paperbag. Shut up and let the process play out. Go to the games, watch the games and see how these players do on the pro level. This is how this has been done for decades and it ain't gonna change.

This is the first true nose tackle i can remember the 49ers drafting since Soap maybe?

Actually for us old guys that have followed the Niners since their inception(born in 46 and my Uncle was one of the original players back then), this guy is the first real deal since Michael Carter was drafted by Bill Walsh! Looks to be a great pick, hope it tuns out that way!

That's awesome lore.

Thank you! Had season tickets for over 35 years, but too old to go to Levi's! And I used to post a lot on here but let you youngsters take the lead! I hope all the picks work for us and we have a great season!

Wow, 35 years! Much respect. Please post more as we can always use more wisdom around these parts.

I'm a Faithful on the east coast, born and raised in Europe, and Montana in SB23 hooked me as a kid. We come from all walks of life and from everywhere, but it's always great to hear from those who have seen it all.

Here's to that elusive sixth, my friend.
Wilfork was a true Nose, Alfred played some nose in college but hes by far better at 3 tech imo. If anything, Collins versatility is pretty impressive for his size. Hes played everywhere, from nose to edge.
Really like this pick. What a D line they are building!

This kid has freak potential. A man of his size having that kind of coordination and athleticism is ridiculous. It's like the light came on with him this season and he's finally starting to put it all together. I badly wanted us to get Vita Vea when he came out and now we have our own version of him in Collins. I can't wait to see him develop under Kocurek.
I slept on the pick and overall, not a massive fan of the pick at 43.

I understand needing to stop the run, but you gotta have something to offer as a pass rusher and I'm just not seeing it with him. He reminds me of Red Bryant in the Gus Bradley Seattle days (also kinda reminds me of A'Shawn Robinson).

Maybe he can put it together and figure out how to rush the passer a little. He's just really big and there's no twitch or real explosion there. Kinda a head scratcher for this scheme.

Day 2 picks imo overall were reaches. Don't really hate any of the players. Just not a fan of when they were taken.
