I like him, but I still don't believe the trade-up rumors. There is just no way he was worth #11 AND a third round pick. Trading up for him would've been disastrous.

Really? Not hard to believe at all; just thankful they got turned down. This regime traded up for CJ Beathard; Dante Pettis, Trey Sermon, (to name a few) in rounds that were already massive reaches. Also traded the farm for the #3 pick (Lance) before even knowing who they would take. Who TF else has ever done that?

Yeah, no ones buying this crap. They probably wanted to trade up for an OT.

Literally every team says they loved the value they got and can't believe player X dropped to them. Calm down

It's really not that unthinkable - you just say that cause you don't love him as a prospect. The bears and Carolina threw things off by taking a TE top 10 and Carolina going for a WR. A lot of people expected those to be defensive players.

overall, I think we got a good player and things worked out but based on the trades this team has made - it doesn't sound far fetched to me at all.

What is it about the 49ers failing that you enjoy so much?

Enjoy? Just giving examples of them trading up; it isn't unbelievable at all too me, especially when it literally came from the horses mouth and confirmed by the HC
^ And FWIW I am on record hating every one of those trade ups for those players. Complete opposite of enjoying it. The Lance trade I actually did not hate; but I would never and have never heard of a team trading that much capitol before knowing who they are trading for. Have you?

There was a video posted on X with Lynch calling him to say they were drafting him and he said on that call that they tried to trade up for him. Why would he make the first thing he told the kid a lie?

This is a silly take when we don't even know what he is or isn't. If he ends up being an Aldon Smith like player without the off the field stuff..would he have been worth a low 3rd round pick to secure?

It's also pointless to speculate or pretend the team lied and they were looking to trade up for someone like Banks when all signs were they were going to address the DL in the draft(you don't release so much of your starters on the DL without a clear commitment to replenishing it via the draft)

And the other part is...had they done so we wouldn't have felt it was disastrous considering many people had expected Carolina, New Orleans and even Chicago to go DL and after Carter/Graham it was pick your poison.

49ers gut their DL before FA starts
49ers don't sign anyone in FA on DL
49ers tell everyone "we're going to address DL in the draft"
49ers draft DL early in the draft

49ers fans: I don't believe they wanted to secure their choice of DL. They were going OT!

Gotta love this fanbase.

He wouldn't make that up. It's just the fans being dumb.

We went from having Nick Bosa and nobody to having Bosa and Williams on the edge and Afred Collins and CJ West on the inside. The Dline has been revamped over night. And now the other guys we have as depth looks better because they are not starters. I love Having Givens, and Anderson as our 3 and 4 DT's, That's good depth. But it would be brutal for us if they were starters. Same goes for Edge, I love having Matos and Sam OK as our depth but I would hate it if they were our starter opposite Bosa.

Yup, loving getting young dlinemen that we can rotate in and out to keep fresh during games. We need to invest at least one or two dlinemen every draft tbh

Totally agree. YGM is a free agent in 2026. Can't imagine them shelling out big money to keep him. Drafting Dline keeps us in a position where we don't have to sign for a bunch of free agents.

Honestly if he can stop the run that's already a huge plus.

I think that was Kyles and lynch's #1 priority this off-season. Building a defense that's gonna be hard to run against, and I think they may have just accomplished that with these draft picks.
I
Now we just need to hope they stay healthy cause the current depth behind the rookies is rough. Unless guys make improvements but everyone sucked outside of Bosa last year at stopping the run.

Yeah our depth everywhere outside of maybe WR once Ayuik is healthy is pretty bad. We are one serious star injury from having a gaping hole

Thats most teams, including Webzone favorites the Eagles. It's hard to maintain when you have serious injuries to star players. I trust this team more than most to weather the storm though given their history.

I trust that Saleh can put together an admirable performance if some guys miss games. I had hope for the last two coordinators but it's nice to finally have some real confidence that the defense will be alright. These last two years have sucked knowing that our defense would be super inconsistent.

if the run defense and special teams can go from bottom of the league to even middle of the league, that's a ton of extra wins right there and stops putting our offense in so many horrible situations.
Totally agree. And this is the perspective needed to see what will be needed to improve. We attached our top weaknesses with a vengeance

1. Special teams coordinator
2. Defensive coordinator
3. Run D
4. D line depth.
5. Receiver separation

I left off O line because we are average at that spot. What contracts Banks and Moore got should be evidence as to how the league views our O line. Four guys from this system have gotten paid- Tomlinson, McGlinchey, Moore, and Banks. Another is still in the league, getting occasional starts- Justin Skule. I want to build a wall but this team, but given how trash we were in other units, based on actual metrics, it wasn't the most effective way to move the needle.

Technically we went from Collins/Floyd/Hargrave to Collins/Williams/West

I mean sure, they released the former three, but it is a bit misleading imo to say we went from Bosa and nobody because they didnt actually play "Bosa and nobody" in actual games.
The first group looks good on paper if we had our 2023 offense, 20 point lead, elite redzone offense, and 3rd and long. Id take that lineup. But a close game or a game without an elite offense, it will look like nobody.
For those of us that like to know what numbers draftees are going to wear.

Just wondering how many rookie starters on defense the 49ers will have this year.

I can see as many as 6 and all on defense.
Mykell - RDE
Collins - 3T
West - NT
Martin - WLB/SLB
Sigle - FS
Stout - NB.

I think Mykell and Collins clearly have the easiest path to start. The other guys will have to battle for it.

Yup, even if some of those guys don't start - they'll get a lot of play time.
